You should create a fourm to copy the best threads to that ask the most common questions and get the best answers. These can be help posts or tips.

I know this is in part what wiki is for, and what should just be a FAQ, but there isn't always time for both or either. Besides, when there is time, this would be a great pool to draw from. On top of that, since they came here for an answer, they would be more likely to read a post here to get an answer than leave the site for it.

I suggest this because you must spend more time on the same questions again and again here (eh, "I have picture and no sound", "EPG not updating"), even if you are just copying and pasting pat answers. If you could paste in a link to one of these "gems", that would probably free up a minimum of 15-30% of your time.

I would make it moderated and tightly reigned, w/ the theads locked. This would make looking for a relevant post easy, and the content from getting tampered w/ and losing the quality of it.

I would just take a min to do it, but don't put a lot of thought into it. Just start adding to it going forward. It will become pretty useful in short order w/ very little effort.

It's like deciding to use a desk drawer for "junk". You don't necessarily go looking for things to put into it, but rest assued it gets filled up in a few days regardless.

Yep. There's already a tips and trix section on the wiki, even if it's under-utilised. People can post their own stuff there already.

Or if that's too much trouble, maybe another 'family' (don't know what you call them) that tips/ stickys can be moved to. I bet even if you took the time to write it all out you'd still get people asking the same questions without looking.

This really needs to be just for sub (or the few folks he feels are answering the same basic questions on his behalf all the time) so he can manage the Q&A's he handles for all the new users all day.

The whole idea should be thought of like sub's post-notes fourm, where he can say "this answers this question pefectly", and assign it there so he can handle the next time in 2sec.

Everything else for doign this right (wiki, exisiting fourms) should be utilized by the rest of us.

We should all continue helping out, and ppl should be adding knowledge to wiki. All I'm suggesting to sub is have a fourm where he can copy posts that answer the questiosn he deals w/ most often, so he can just sent folks there when they ask.

Ive been planning on doing something like this as ive almost finished building PVR No 1 and wanted to contribute something more solid to the community. Thought spending time expanding the wiki might be useful. Ive done a HIP/GBPVR user guide and the next bit i was going to try was build a list of 'Top Twenty Newbie Questions' and trawl the forum for the answers.

You are right, it would be better on the forum though, or maybe on both forum and wiki?

How about if we do the legwork, compile the list of questions and stock answers, and then sub can pick which ones he wants to stick in a locked thread?

I can think of a few off the top of my head right now...

1) whats the best decoder

2) why does my remote not work (this may already be covered by the website ive seen someone building comprehensivly listing the different hauppauge flavours)/why does xxx button on my remote not work

3) How should i partition my system

3) Will my tuner card work with GBPVR (we could all contribute a list of tuners we have working, as a 'proven to work elsewhere' list)

4) I cant get GBPVR to hibernate/standby, then wake up my system, why?

5) What logs will tell me what?

6) how can i select which tuner to use for recording/live tv?

7) Ive changed skin and cant see some plugins, what do i do now?

8) whats the minimum spec?

9) If im going to ask a question, whats bits of info/logs most useful to help you give an accurate answer?
