As I understand it gbpvr will only allow cycling through the different aspect ratios if configured to use VMR9.

Why is this ?

If I playback a gbpvr recorded mpeg using any other player - ie windows media, powerdvd, windvd etc they all allow for 16:9 playback.

Hauppauge WinTV allows 16:9
ProgDVB handles 16:9

I tried setting to use VMR9 and the playback quality was abysmal - a lot of blocky artefact. Even with VMR7. The overlay setting is the only one that gives me decent quality.

Any ideas ?

I really like GBPVR btw, but the aspect ratio is driving me nuts !

Aspect ratio control works for both VMR7 and VMR9.

The reason I havent added aspect ratio control for Overlay is because of the method I use for displaying graphics on the video. Using this method, the overlay graphic is tied to the exact same position of the video, and it looks bloody ugly, with the graphic either cut off the screen, or displayed half way up the screen etc.

When you cut & paste with Overlay, you dont get the video, but if you use you imagination, you should be able to picture what I'm talking about:

Oh - I think I understand - because other apps don't position graphics on top of the video, they can adjust the aspect ratio with no problems ?

Can I tackle this problem differently - why is my playback with VMR7 and VMR9 so blocky ? (So bad, its unwatchable).

Maybe if I could fix this ...

Correct.

I'm not sure. It could be your video decoder at fault, or maybe your video card, or it's drivers.
