I suggest that we in this post add material that Sub can use for an update of the web page. It think that web owe him somthing in return for all the work he puts in.

I like how the webpage is rather unasuming...

Next to certain other PVR websites that seem to go 'LOOK AT ME I'LL CHANGE YOUR LIFE HERES 7000 WAYS I WILL!!!!!', it has its own charm in its simplicity and sort of, 'try it if you like, it wont bit' style.

Im probably taking through my rear-end, but do you know what i mean?:o just thats the first impression i got from the home page and it drew me in. didnt promise the world, but gave me everything id been looking elsewhere for.

It would be nice if the home page retained that friendly feel. Maybe just pretty it up a bit, make the wiki more visible from the home page and ramp up the efforts to get the wiki up to date?

Ive suggested the Supported Tuner list in the past, but with the facility for people to append their own to the list, along with (very short) experiences in getting it working with GBPVR.

something like five levels of setup :

works out of box
easy editing of setup files
medium
advanced/tricky setup
unstable

thoughts?

EDIT: i think as a list like this would grow, maybe this would be better on the wiki? im quite happy to do the legwork for a page like this...

i agree with ricklous. a flashy 'aggressive' site full of buzzwords promising me everything i could ever imagine is more a con than a pro for me.

however, a more detailed tuner list would be great. it may reduce the 'will this card XY work'-posts Smile
should be in the wiki, though (so sub does not have to do all updates himself)
AMD 1600mHz, 512 M RAM, 20+160 GB drive, Hauppauge PVR-350 + PVR-150 + PVR-150MCE, Win XP Pro SP3, using software decoding.

You should add also: Hauppauge HVR-1300 (recognized as Nova-T + Roslyn)
and HVR-1100 (only the DVB part as Nova-T) in the section of supported cards.

I think the new "Blue" skin should be added, at least. It looks a lot better than the old one.

Please add facts, instead of having an opinion of whether there should be facts or not.
For you that dont like documentation, start a tread for that.
In the end its up to Sub if he want to add facts to the web page or not. I just want to give him some relevant facts to select from.

Im sorry if you misunderstood my post, I wasnt arguing that we need documentation, but we already have a tool for that in the Wiki. i was just saying that it needs updating, possibly more so than the home page.

Once the community has got the Wiki into good shape, (if he wants to) Sub can select titbits of stuff from that to transfer to the home page. Surely thats a more logical way of doing it?

Thanks to the work that you yourself has done, along with Sub, Old Dog, Reven, Dottore et al, its a bit out of date in a lot of places. Not being a programmer in any way, nor a graphic artist, andi cant even afford to send Sub a donation so pretty much the only way i can contribute is in the form of documentaion to help other newbies get the most from GBPVR. Ive very keen to do this, which is why my HipGuide is on the Wiki, and why I'll try and help your efforts as much as i can.

Which is why i was offering to do the tuner list on the Wiki and flesh it out to include feedback from the forum on what people have found with particular tuners, if people think it would be a valuable resource.

And im hoping we wont see sub around much come the next few weeks anywayWink

These are very good ideas. Can tell MixMan has spent alot of time making the tuner list (it goes on forever Smile) Put it on the wiki now! is all I can say. Big Grin

If you want to add/edit the wiki go ahead; it is ,after all, a community driven document.

edit : maybe parts of mixman's 1st post could be on a "What GBPVR can do" page?

I just spent 5 minutes on that list.
It is just the names in bda.ini and direct.ini

But there might be more cards that is supported in reality?
It is really easy to make your own section in those files.
Just add the filter names and the pin names of the driver filter.....and try.
But I dont know if it documented somewhere....in the Wiki.

It have always been on the wiki at http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Manual/CaptureCards
I have (now) also made a direct link to that page in the sidebar since it's probably one of the first pages a potential user would like to see.

Do help to keep the list up-to-date, as stated above it IS a community document.
