I just bought the All In One URC 8910 Remote (8 devices).

Out of the box it doesn't support the MVP so I called their Tech Support (long distance) and they upgraded it right over the phone by holding the phone to the remote, pretty slick. It sounded like a 300 baud modem (damn I'm old). Now works perfect with my MVP minus the colored buttons wich you can "learn" and set to any keys you want.

You can also get a data cable and do other stuff with it but I'm too lazy for all that (google JP1)

The key layout could be a little better but I'll get used to it, but for $37 it's a pretty nice remote.

I was getting tired of 3-4 remotes and that cheapy one that came with the MVP...

Though I'd let you guys know if anyone was thinking of getting a new remote to use with their MVP.

Wow, I just bought this remote, and ordered the JP1 cable to program it. Now I've got to get on the phone! How does the remote "hear" the phone?

Thanks for the tip.
What, me worry?

This remote actually has some kind of audio receiver. I think you might be able to download WAV files to do the upgrades as well.

Goover_KM and I have the same remote. I went the JP1 route beacause I needed additonal control added for other deivces. I have also added the color buttons to the "L" keys. The advantage to downloading (via phone or JP1) is saving memory. If you sat down and tried to "learn" the whole hauppauge remote you would run out of memory. But, if you build a code or "dial up" a code it becomes part of the built in code library.

If you get into JP1 you can add a code for aspect control. Then you need to edit it into the irremote.ini and presto you can now change aspect ratio from your remote.

I love the thing. I have also had good luck with radio shack remotes. Same technology inside.

Enjoy.

I use this remote and recommend it at every opportunity! Roy, if you need a remote-master file when you get your JP1 cable, let me know.

I think I already grabbed it yesterday from your previous posting, thanks.

Can you get the WAV from their web site? I just called and they're gone for the weekend. :p Guess I'll search for it.

If anyone finds that they can actually get .wav files for these things, please post back. They aren't available on the manufacturer's web site. I've got the URC 9960. Works great but it's a battery eater. I'd probably go with the 8910 next time just to avoid all the dead batteries.

The One-For-All remotes work much, much better than any other universal I've tried and the over the telephone upgrading is quite cool, but I wish they'd make the tone files available over the web instead of having to call them.

Has anyone managed to find a retailer that ships these to Europe? For some reason they are not part of the One for All European range.

Eureka! After a long night last night, gathering and learning the tools, I created the wav file (using groover km's update file) to add the mvp device code to the 8910 remote. Took some experimenting, but it worked!

Attached is the wav file which you play to the remote. I'll post more detail later.

Here's the process I used to upgrade the URC8910 remote with a device code to work like the Hauppauge 45 button remote. Researched and gathered the tools required at the JP1 site and forum: http://hifi-remote.com/forums/

Started with the .rmdu file from groover km (many thanks, it's attached, I can't say how to create it).

Used Remote Master program to open the rmdu file and copy it to clipboard.

Used IR.exe program to open the .rdf file for the 8910 and add a device, pasting the data from the clipboard. Then, create the .wav file using export to wav>upgrade. This created the wav file attached to the previous post.

To upgrade the remote: setup>upgrade>download, then when you press select again and the red light comes on, hold the bottom front of the remote (under the red light) to the speaker and play the wav file. Remote will say "complete" when successful.

Now set the remote VCR device to code 2000, and it controls the MediaMVP and PVR150 like the 45 button remote. Cool

Hope this is useful. I just couldn't wait till Monday to do it over the phone Big Grin

If anyone wants one for these in Europe just private message me and we can work something out. I really think these are GREAT remotes and will even throw in a JP1 programming cable for cheap!

Also has anyone actually applied the firmware upgrade for this remote? If so can you please post your experience.
