Hi - all of my recordings have lots of picture blocking on them - when I watch live TV via GBPVR - they're fine.

What do I need to do?

Nova-T (90002)
Windows XP
BDA Multiplexer - Cyberlink

(from muxchecker)
GB-PVR has detected the following multiplex filters on your machine:

Found: InterVideo Multiplexer
FILE: C:\Program Files\InterVideo\Common\bin\ivimux.ax
VERSION: 3.0.86.0

Found: CyberLink MPEG Muxer
FILE: C:\THMpgMux.ax
VERSION: 5.0.1307

sounds like it could be a bitrate issue, although the default "medium" record bitrate works pretty well for most. have you tried recording a show in the high quality settings?

it could also be an encoder/decoder issue. it is possible that your setup does not pass through the encoder/decoder path when watching live tv. does timeshifted tv look good or bad?

Can't be a bitrate issue as the card is a Nova-T which is a DVB-T, you get the bitrate that the broadcaster transmits, there is no option to record in any specific bitrate.

FWIW, I get the opposite problem, my recordings are fine, it's my live TV that has the blocking and ghosted movement.

One thing that might be worth looking at is the hard disc interface, is it using DMA? Perhaps it's a data transfer issue and losing data in the transmission stream while the disc is servicing the write request?

hmm.. are you using live preview mode? sounds like the problem might be your de-interlacing settings, are you using encoder pass-through.. I would think that your picture looks fine in timeshifting mode?

The problem occurs when playing out to an MVP in my case.

I think Windows XP uses DMA by default.
Is it a disk space issue? Is there a minimum I should have? Is is a defrag issue (though I do defrag reguarly).....it's one of those things that was never an issue.....but for some reason now it is! When I used the default DVR-MS format for my recordings - it was fine......since I've used the Cyberlink setting it certainly seems to have got worse.

It will if it can, I just thought it might be worth checking. I find that I just get a momentary glitch which to me seems like the PC was too busy elsewhere and hence lost some DVB stream and since the only thing it is doing is recording, that's why I wonder if it's a disk latency issue. I haven't solved mine yet so i'll keep watching your progress Smile

I've just changed the BDA Multiplexer from Cyberlink back to Microsoft DVR-MS.....and did a quick recording, and at first glance it seems fine.....

Unfortunately, I want my recordings in a format that I can burn on to DVD as easily as possible (see my millions of other entries on the MYDVD forum!)....and converting DVR-MS to MPEG wasn't great...hence why I went with the Cyberlink BDA Multiplexer.

This all being the case, why does the Win2000 software that came with my Nova-T card 'seem' to record fine.....can I get GBPVR to use whatever the Win2000 software is using (can they use the same Mux)

I'm still a bit of a novice at all of this...........
