Hi

I have just been given "permission" to add another tuner to my system. So I want to add a PVR500 and replace the 150 I have there now.

What's up with the MCR version of the PVR500, what is it, and can you get a non-MCE one, with a remote (the hauppauge remote not an MCE one). My PVR150 was a retail box with the remote, but obviously I'd like to sell that, remote included. So to replace it, I would like a PVR500 and another hauppauge remote control (the 45).

Can I get this?? Or will I have to get an MCR version of the card with no remote and use the current one from the PCR-150??

The PVR-500 only comes in an MCE edition, and there is no place to connect the Hauppauge remote. Do you have enough PCI slots to keep both the PVR-150 and the PVR-500?

Oh bollocks How stoopid is that!!!

Yeah i do actually, i just didn't want to split the signal again....Oh well so I'll have 3 tuners!!

EDIT: If i have the PVR500 going to a cable box and have to recordings set for the same time on different channels on the calbe box, will it have a battle as to who gets the channel?? Or does GBPVR figure out that they are both coming from the same source and one looses??

If you set up more than one capture source to have channels only offered by the cable box, GB-PVR has no way to know you only have the one cable box, so it'll cause problems.

so if i'm look at keeping the pvr150 and 500 would I be better to leave the 150 as it is and just run an aerial connection to the 500??

Or just get another 150 and not be greedy.

So if i got a 500. Had one tuner set up with a capture source for a cable box and aerial based capture source (call this 1), then the other tuner having only the aerial based capture source (call this 2).

What would happen if recording something on the tuner 1 (recording an aerial based channel) then i wanted to watch something off the cable box (which was set up on that tuner).

Or in this situation would you just set up and aerial source on 2 and the cable box on 1. Sort of means you couldn't record two aerial based things at once though.

Yes, it can get complex when you have multiple tuners and only one cable box with the majority of your channels...

hmmm, wouldn't it work if he set the second card to be the one that has cable and ant.,and the first only ant.? that way preferred recording source would be the first card and preferred viewing card would be second one, when he was recording the on the ant. the first card would be chosen, and he could still watch tv on cable on the second...and if he were recording something on cable, the second card would be used as t's the only source for cable, and he could still watch ant. from first one cuz it's not in use?
at least that's the way i understand it...
recording sources start at the beginning of the list, and viewing sources from the end backwards..[till they find one that's not busy doing something]

if the cards were the other way around [the numbering in config] then if you recorded a ant. show,it would use the cable/ant. tuner and no cable-capable tuner would be left...Smile
confusing i know but just try it and see if it works!

Yeah I thought that i remembered sub saying that it started at the top of the tuner list and went down, so, i'd probably set it as you suggested pBS.

I'm also thinking I might be keeping the 150 as well, so maybe I'll just leave that for the cable box, and set the 500's as ant. based only.
