Hey all!

Wondering if anyone has any good documents on converting recordings to xvid and automatically removing commercials?

I have comskip running and it works quite well. I would like to take the comskip data and feed it to an app (right now I'm thinking premier but it seems like overkill) that would remove the sections of video containing the commercial. Once it's done I'd like the final output to be an Xvid commercial free show ready to be archived.

Anybody doing this or know how?

search the forum for comskip and mencoder.
Comskip can generale a so call EDL file
Mencoder reads the EDL file to know where to cut.

being a newbie this is the first I've heard of comskip, is it accurate etc and does it ever chop out bits of the show!

I have in the past used videredo to manually cut out commercials, but it would be nice to not have to use an app out of gbpvr, just a key to mark start of a cut and then FF/RW to where the end of the cut should be then Snip!
Thats how my hw pvr does it and thats what I'm used to, and so much easier, for a manual system.

I find comskip does a great job most the time. In fact I would say the last few releases have been very, very accurate.

Because different TV channels are - well - different comskip uses a Varity of algorithms to pick the sometime subtle difference between program and commercial. Many of these variables can be tuned to suit your particular reigon and some are posted in the forum.

We are very fortunate to get fantastic support from Mr. Comskip (Eric) and he seems eager to help with any difficult detection scenarios people find.

Having said this I actually use the default settings with great success.
Core2-E2180, 1G RAM, 1Gb-5450 Silent, 2Tb +300g HDDs.
Three tuners: [SIZE=2][SIZE=1]Twinhan DVB-T x 1, Hauppauge Nova 500T (dual)

DTB Digital SD + HD content (PAL-MPEG2-AC3).
Custom case made very quiet. Zalman CPU cooler.
Sits in rack with other HiFi.

ParaLED to show tuner activity.

If you use comskip to skip past the commercials without real cuttind (and deleting) there is never any real danger.
W.r.t. the quality of comskip, I have nothing to add to the previous post, except my family agrees ;-)
