im right now watching a show, and saw a movie that i wanted to record later.
but when i tried to get into that menu, i cant unless i quit my current viewing.
Is this possible, with eg. the current show in the background or something, or something else?

Your trying to figure out a way to watch one show and schedule a recroding at a different time?

No prob. While watching press the "Guide" button on the remote (or keyboard shortcut) and the Mini guide comes up. Schedule your recording.

Another way: While watching TV press "menu", it should exit back to the main menu with tv in the "inset" from here you can go to the TV guide and schedule another show.

If your trying to watch and record at the same time you need to have two tuners.

Hope this helps.

hmm, well it kinda helped :p
first, im not that big on extremely good quality on movies, tveps and all, so i dont have any HTPC, im just using this ANALOG tuner(Hauppauge 500 MCE, that is 2 tuners) to use as a simple video, and thereby i dont have any remote control at all.
Ive been looking for the "keyboard shortcut" for the thing you said, but i cant find it Sad
it gotta be in the config somewhere, right?

gotta go have another look... for the 3rd time :p
