Hi,

Would someone be able to help me set up EPG for Australia?
There is a fair amount of information around about this subject, I've searched the forum and looked through the Wiki... but I'm missing something.

I have a PVR-150, so will be getting analogue not digital antenna broadcasts.

Is my understanding correct:
a) I can use Bladerunner or EPGrunner to grab tv listings for Australia?
b) In GBPVR config > Capture Source > EPG source, I should select "XMLTV Plugin"?
c) Under EPG Source > Settings, I should select the location of a .xml file created by Bladerunner or EPGrunner?

If this is all correct, can someone tell me the name and location of the .xml file created by Bladerunner or EPGrunner?

I have tried installing and running both of these grabbers; I don't think Bladerunner worked properly. When I tried running EPGrunner, it seemed to be happy enough, but it's not obvious to me where the .xml file is (or what it's called)... so maybe it didn't work.

Any help appreciated! If I get the answers I need I'll be happy to write this up for the Wiki...

Thanks!

It is my inderstanding that ICETV http://icetv.com.au has the exclusive rights to EPG in Australia. 14 day free trial then $3 per week.

With digital broadcast the networks only encode the current program and next program. But if you are analogue that dosn't matter anyway.

Basically, once you have set up account you download the xml file from the link above then point the GBPVR config to that file.

The xml is only 7 days at a time and is around 1 Mb.

Good luck.

Having said above - if anyone knows anything about Bladerunner or EPGrunner or any other alternative to icetv please speak up.

Thanks for the pointers, I'll grab a copy of that D1XMLTVGrabber and give it a whirl!

Additional pointers on understanding the path for the XMLTV file would be appreciated. Is this a single .xml file which is updated each time the grabber runs? Is there a standard location for this, or does it depend on the grabber?

Any other resources for getting Australian epg running with GBPVR also appreciated!

Thanks!

Yes, it is a single xml file which is updated each time the grabber runs. The location of the file depends on the grabber. In your capture card setup you need to point out that location so that gbpvr can find the file and update the EPG. To automate the process of grabbing tv listings, you can create a file called updateEPG.bat in your gbpvr folder, and in that bat file call the command line that is needed in order for the xmltv grabber to run. GBPVR will call updateEPG.bat each time before trying to update the EPG.

Hi
I am from Australia as well. I have been using MCE and EPGrunner for a while but I am switching to GB-PVR in order to stream to a Happauge MediaMVP client.

Just wondering if you had any success in getting your EPG running yet?

Thanks
Anthony

I use http://www.cse.unsw.edu.au/~willu/xmltv/...u_reg.html to get EPG from tvguide.org.au. I've had it working for a few months now with no problems.

It wasn't too difficult to set up.

I've found D1XMLTV really easy to use, and scheduling the daily updates was as easy as pie.

My only complaint is the accuracy of the schedule data; the timings often seem to be out by 5-15 mins. Today I have a very unhappy Family Guy fan on my hands because we missed the end of the show; for some reason the follow-on recording (Scrubs) didn't kick in straight away.

I gather this is an ongoing problem in Australia, and that other data sources are pretty much the same; it seems to be common practice to approximate beginning and end times to the nearest half hour. Tsssk!! Rolleyes

Hi I just changed the name of the output file in the config file and it now works.... I wonder what that is... perhaps I installed something and needed to reboot or something yesterday... the name of the output file was my city name and I changed it to ChannelXML.xml
