Ohh so close.....

My live preview used to be crappy. But after playing with the filters I now get nice smooth TV most the time.

The video plays smoothly for a few minutes. Then (seemingly) randomly I get a little jerky or hang that effects the video and occasionally the audio - then back to smooth playback again.

I wonder if this is an interrupt or windows service getting in the way?

This doesn’t happen on recorded video. This is a dedicated PVR but networked to a desktop.

Any ideas appreciated?

You could monitor the taskmanager to see if another program/proces is taking alot of cpu while you are recording, as it happens every few minutes you won't have to wait long.

I have looked in to this some more.

CPU is way down at in the range between 25-45%
Ram seems to be at about 280Mb in 512Mb. (tried 768 - no difference)
No shared interrupts.
Upgraded graphics to Asus 6200-256Mb.Also upgraded drivers.
Task monitor shows no peaks or consistent processes associated with the jerk.

But, I now think it may be linked to the audio render. When I choose another option the jerk goes away completely. Unfortunately so does any sync between the audio and video. Rolleyes

So I would like to try some different audio renderers.
Cyberlink locks the system.
The others are associated with the ASUS onboard (soundMAX) (registed in the quartz.dll which I know can be another saga)

Can anyone suggest some alternate audio renders and give me their names so I can search, find and register them.

Thanks.

My understanding was that the audio renderers were literally the driver interface to your soundcard or on board sounds. The four shown in your picture above (except the Cyberlink one) are just alternate names for the same thing... but seeing the Cyberlink one there makes me wonder if I should doubt that. Then again, it may be some shim they've created which sits in front of the real audio renderer.

An update on this.

Installed a PCI soundblaster card. Nothing fancy just something different to the MAXaudio that is onboard my ASUS MB.

Using the creative "direct sound creative soundblaster" audio renderer this problem went away. But only after I disabled, uninstralled, and unregistered everything to do with MAXaudio.

Prior to the total purge the mute would only mute the onboard rather than the PCI.

I still notice a difference in volume level between live TV and recorded video?

I guess it just goes to show how complex the whole behind the scenes decoder/renderer thing can be. particulary if you get two pieces of hardware that don't seem to get along. Smile

Thanks - Better late ....

I did look and it seemed that the onboard sound had its own unique iterrupt - but I thought for quite a while this was a very likley cause - certainly seemed to fit the intermittent nature of the problem.
