Recording with PCM?

Hi, I have the Hauppauge 150 and I was wondering if it was at all possible to record the audio as PCM or encode it during capture time as ac3.

I am trying to convert video from my camcorder to dvd.
What I want to do is record the audio as pcm and then convert it to ac3. Is this just a waste of time and I should just stick with how it is recorded now, as an MPEG-1 Layer2? Would it be pointless if I convert the MPEG-1 Layer2 to ac3 using something like http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=ffmpegGUI and using that create my dvd?

Sorry if this has been asked before, I tried searching but no results. Im not even sure if I should be posting on gbpvr forum, but I thought Id try!

why do you want to convert it? the mp2 is burnable to dvd and usable by most programs..ac3 requires licenses for codecs...if you're playing it thru spdif you *might* get better quality but i doubt it..and pvr150 doesn't record multiple audio tracks so that couldn't be it..
for better quality just up the bitrate of mp2 audio in config profile..
256k should be nearly identical quality to source..
ffmpeg and mencoder can do the conversion if needed also..
