Using GBPVR as a frontend

I have a very good DVR deck for recording, and an old. and slow pc running GBPVR....I have sat with EPG issues, so I want the guide from GBPVR and most of the other features, but would prefer to just record to dvd, I can set up the timers on everything, but would like to use GBPVR to do it all, My issue is that I cannot select from the guide, and issue commands to each device, sat, TV and DVR, without having GB try to record to hard drive....Is there a way? Am I missing something?
