I'm looking for a hopefully freeware MPEG compressor to compress files I am recording with GBPVR. It has to be command-line so I could schedule it. Any suggestions?

So are you basically wanting to re-encode the mpeg's that are recorded by GBPVR?

From a freeware point of view, check out mencoder, ffmpeg and Quenc. These are all based upon libavcodec,

cheers,
Colin.

Yes, for some reason GBPVR won't let me encode at a lower bitrate than 4gb per hour, so I'm trying to script a compression routine. Right now I'm looking into a Python module called pymedia, but I'm finding it hard to get this working. Thanks for your advice, I'll check out those programs.

I have had some trouble with gbpvr if I choose a bitrate that's too low.. now I'm using this, it still looks nice on the tv, and it takes up about 800mb for 30min.

Video Bit Rate: 2700 Kbit/sec
Video Resolution: Pal 720x576
Audio Bit Rate: 256 (if I use 160 it sounds like the tv's in a cardboard box...)
Audio Sample Rate: 44 Khz

Nkh,
Where do you set that? The only place I was aware of was in the GBPVR configuration screens and the options are limited there...

If you're using the direct recording plugin, C:\Program Files\devnz\GBPVR\direct.ini
