mostly a question for sub for possibilities....

The way that the MVP gets it's live tv signal, would this be possbile with GBPVR?
I assume the way the mvp works is that it tells the Recording Service to start the tuner on channel x, and then picks up the MPG file created about a half second later.

I don't know if there would be enough functions in the API to replicate this functionality for GBPVR so I doubt we'd be able to write it as a plugin. But how much code do you think it would take to make a variation of Live TV work this way for GBPVR?

This would allow people to run as a client server type architecture.

I know you've got a lot on your plate already, but what do we think?? If we think plugins could do it, then I'd have a look at it.

The MVP is using pretty much the normal timeshift mode.

If I ever do a client/server model, it'll most likely just force timeshift in this same way. Infact the client/server set up that is described elsewhere here in a couple of posts is pretty much exactly what I'd do, but with a couple minor modifications to do better buffering so that it works over the network. As is, this method already works, and lets you schedule recordings, view recordings, watch timeshift tv etc...but tv stutters because I havnt made the changes I mentioned above.

yeah I figured that'd be all it was anyways i haven't tried it, and don't really need it cos I've got the MVP for the client and my main machine just sits in the lounge.

I just know that people are interested in it....

A "Me to" to Hotrodders coments.

Live TV to PC network client is the one thing missing from GBPVR system and I'm sure would make a lot of people very happy.
I have MVPs where I have TVs, but I have GBPVR running on a dedicated headless server, and would love to be able to the use the GBPVR system like an MVP on the PC in the study.

Please please please ....

I think it is time to start begging harder for this. I am about to buy a nice big HD-capable display device, and I do not think the MVP output quality will be sufficient. Getting DVI from a PC client will be a must. I do not want to put the server in the living room. This is the only reason I keep considering Sage.

Hi, pls add me to the list of people wanting a Client. Our server (with the tunercard) is in the offfice. We want to watch live TV at our labtops in another room. Wireless, of cause.

Me too!

Hey sub, perhaps you could start a donation bin for this feature with a set dollar figure and when donations hit that level then you could start working on it (you set the dollar figure relative to the time you think it will take you), I am sure it wouldn't be too hard to raise the cash. It could even be a paid client software.

Just my 2 cents.

Scott.

mvandere Wrote:Isn't this already there?

If you install GB-PVR on a second PC, map into the first's hard drive and use 'Video Library' can't you already view a file that's being recorded?

There will be issues, but I'll hold off attempting to iterate them because I've never tried it and they might be showstoppers

How do you watch live TV? ...there's the problem.
