So I really though I knew exactly what I was ordering, but . . . - sigh -

I got the white-box PVR150-MCE from NewEgg. Ad didnt realize that I was getting the 1042!!!
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.as...6815116620

While my living room was strewn with more wires and cables that I could count, I realized my mistake and picked up a hauppauge remote from Ebay (go ahead and start chuckling).
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...%3AIT&rd=1

Then I realized that not only did the 1042 not have an IR cable included, but it doesn't even have a port for one (laugh now).

So . . . now that I have a remote I can't use with a card with no port . . . . any suggestions on what I should do? Is there a receiver that will work with my "new remote?"

. . . . could you elaborate on that? I've done some pretty extensive searching and found very little.

Adding a USB-UIRT would let you use the new remote, but its quickly turning into a costly path. It would have been cheaper to return the PVR150 MCE version, and pay the difference to purchase the retail version of the PVR150.

A USB-UIRT would allow native functionality with the remote? I wouldn't have to spend hours configuring it in the ir*.ini file?

It wouldnt be the same as using the normal Hauppauge remote via on board IR receiver, but a USB-UIRT is the only way you'll be able to use this remote.

If you want to use this sort of remote it would have been better to return the PVR150 MCE version, and buy the retail version of the PVR150.

Hmmm. I could only find a USB_UIRT for $50. That is pricey!

Would probably be a better solution, although I am betting my new remote would not work with this.

The remote you bought wouldnt work with it, but it includes its own remote that will.

So my choices are

1.) $30 for a hauppauge remote/receiver combo
2.) $50 USB-UIRT
3.) $90 for a PVR150 with a remote (which would give me 2 tuners . . . )
4.) $Return the card an purchase another card. ~$30

I have some thinking to do.

Thanks for your help.
