How much money (US$) do you have invested in your GBPVR setup? Do not include costs for TV's or donations to GBPVR.

Now that I have proven to myself that everything works with mostly junk parts I plan to start upgrading my equipment stsrting with a new Mobo.

Right now my problem is more time than money.

I have a refurb dell system for less than $300 and a large drive i bought for $60 after rebates... i tend to do all of PVR updates on the day after thanksgiving... i've hit bestbuy, compusa and circuit city the last two years and buy the cheapest large drive they have since it seems we (the family) record more and more TV as time goes by. but my PVR system also acts as my email, print, file and ftp server plus my development machine, so i think it's been worth the money.

If i bought everything new now that i need id probably have spent about $1000, but after much trial and error and obsolete parts (PVR-350, numerous pci cards) the figure would be more like $1500!

Still good valuegiven the satisfaction and originality!

The only components that I didn't have lying around were my 350 and hard disk for video - so i guess around GBP150ish... Guess I should upgrade the cpu though - just 1ghz at the moment...

Over US$2001 at the current GBP -> US$ exchange rate.

If I lived in the US and got parts at the price that you guys do plus all the rebates and stuff it'd probably be half of that. :p

If I currently had the spare cash I had a year ago, it would be a lot more than that amount. It'd be nice to ramp up the processing power and graphics capability to properley handle the UK (London area) HDTV transmissions that are coming soon.

Oh well - I'll let them sort out the teething problems - and the hardware will always be cheaper in 6 months anyway. Smile

Cheers,
Brian

I used an old laptop that was in storage because of a display failure and bad battery.
WinTV PVR USB2 for about $140.00 (I couldn't wait for a sale)
MediaMPV at the shack for $39.99
250 gig external drive for $80.00, after rebate.
I cant “blame” GBPVR for my two other $80.00 drives because they are also used for data backup.
Even with all three 250-gig drives, it’s less than I paid for my first VCR.

Here's a fun fact I haven’t shared, and you may not want to read this.
My house is centrally located in our town, and the cable/phone/high-speed internet company wanted to use my lot for their city wide cable junction, but didn’t have an easement. Every time I renew my Zap2It account, I put a fresh coat of wax on the distribution center in my back yard. Wouldn’t want it to wear out or anything…. Big Grin

Are you meaning to say you get FREE cable/phone/internet service!?!?!?, if so, that, is simply awe inspiring.
