- When I attempt to playback a movie I have downloaded, or a recording that gbpvr has made it only plays the file back using half of the screen. I know that others were having this problem and I have read those threads but I still have not resolved this. One of my biggest problems was that my installation of gbpvr didn't have Trans2MVP.bat in it by default. I found a copy somewhere but I'm not sure if it is the right one. Also I saw that some people resolved their problem with the batch file from this post:
http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=15156
However I am not exactly sure what I am supposed to do with this. Does this replace Trans2MVP.bat, or should I add these lines to it. Also I have tried vmr7 and overlay manager without any success. Furthermore my problem is not like others' in that my screen is not filled with garbage, just half of the screen is blank. Any help would be appreciated. Peace.

I was getting that problem whenever I was trying to watch an avi file. Switching back to the dongle.bin that came w/GBPVR solved that issue for me. YMMV.

- I already downloaded the lastest dongle.bin from the MediaMVP website, even before confronting this problem. Also I would be happy if I could play the movies with the defualt MediaMVP software but the screen size is too small on my tv and there is no adjustment option i can find. I just want to watch them some way lol. Frustrating. Peace.

If you can hang on just a couple of days I will have a solution for you. Along with the info in those threads you referred to, and a lot of experimentation, I've come up with some really good ideas. I've even written a program....

The biggest problem with writing a program to be released to the public is documentation... *I* know how it works. Now I have to explain it to others...

Just wanted to let you know the fix exists...

I promise I'll have something for you (and others) really soon...

Okay, I know this is a workaround rather than a solution, but when I've downloaded TV shows off the net before (AVI format), I just simply ran them through TMPGEnc and converted them to MPEG2. It was painless, no discernable loss of quality (since the MVP resolution is the limiting factor anyway), and it's a format that GBPVR handles without a problem. Bittorent saved my neck when I didn't have GBPVR configured to pick up the last four episodes of Alias. The wife was NOT pleased and that caused a severe yet undeserved reduction in the WAF for GBPVR. I converted all four AVIs (already commercial free) overnight, and to be honest they were the best looking video I've ever played on GBPVR or the MVP. Very sharp, color was perfect -- it "seemed" like HDTV.

Incidentally, the original AVI files played back fairly well as-is for me. Sometimes it would randomly flip out and bounce back to the GBPVR main menu though, which I knew would frustrate the wife to no end, so I figured it would be best to convert to MPEG2 instead.

Anyway, just thought this might be a temporary fix for you if you can't wait for zehd's real solution.

Are you sure, that you're downloaded files were TV-Recordings and no DVD rips... ;-)

But here in germany not possible and not allowed; it's forbidden to download even series, you saw on TV. You can RECORD your shows, yes, but not download or share... :-D

If you're replying to me, they were definitely TV recordings. These were the final four episodes of TV series that just ended -- I think only the first two years of the four or five year series are out on DVD. These were simply the shows recorded in HDTV using Divx format. These were also available for watching on the ABC network website (although not HDTV quality).

Yeah, P2P file sharing of any type is rapidly becomming a bit of a no-no in Europe. I think Spain just completely outlawed the entire P2P thing. I don't know when/if the USA will ever do that, but it seems kind of silly to outlaw downloading shows that are available on OTA broadcast TV. I guess the commercials/sponsors aren't getting their money's worth out of the advertising that's edited out of the download, but the same can be said of Tivo users, too. Then again, Tivo is going to quickly become a target of the legal system anyway, since too many people are not focussing on the similarities of renting a DVD from BlockBuster and making a personal copy of it to recording a HBO movie on your Tivo. Either way you look at it, you're making a personal copy of a movie that you paid to temporarily view. It's a legal pickle for sure.

Sorry for the off-topic!

Yeah I think there shouldn't be a problem with downloading shows that you could have recorded if all went well.

But in some countries it's grey area, some black...

Personally, I only download shows that I watch and miss. That's good enough for me. Out and out stealing is one thing. Using downloads as a fallback is another.

Though for the record, this is only hypothetical. none of us actually download TV or Movies, right?

Oh and for those interested in a preview, I've completed the first part of some documentation explaining my new Post Processing Utility: ZProcess.

You can't download it or install it, (soon though) but a quick look at my page, might give a few more ideas rolled into the final beta release...

I hope it looks like something some of you can use...
