I have a Cyberlink decoder (550 Theater card) so OSD does not work for me with VMR9 or 7. So, I've switched to the Overlay Manager and was wondering what the difference actually is. I noticed there is no transparency with OSD, is there anything else? Is the Overlay Manager any slower?

- EDIT -
The Wiki says "Aspect Ratio," but I guess it's not complete because I've also lost the transparency.

Pure Overlay should be faster, yep.

You're saying that you own a ATI Theater 550 with the Cyberlink Decoder? The Cyberlink PowerDVD Decoder is known to be "tweaked" for VMR9 Usage. Normally it's not activated by default. You can search through the forum, there are some links to enable this Option with a few Registry Tweaks. Perhaps these will work with your decoder Version.

And yes: With overlay the transparency is away.

You can get the cyberlink decoder to work with VMR9 by adding the 'EnableVMR9=1' registry setting. I cant remember exactly where this goes, but if you google for 'Cyberlink EnableVMR9' I'm sure it'll turn up the detail.

Yea I just found the registry file in the Wiki. I had searched the forum previously and found the EnableVBR thing, but for some reason that didn't work for me. I may have put it in the wrong place or something, because this registry file is working fine.

How is VMR9 Custom Renderer different from simply VMR9?

The main differences are

1/ OSD can be updated while video is paused, which is useful in quite a few places (seeing duration info updating, seeing 'no signal' messages when using DVB capture device etc).
2/ Uses Direct3D for drawing frames to the screen.
3/ aspect ratio control works with nvidia cards when DXVA is enabled. With VMR9 this combination leads to screen corruption.
