I run my media center 24/7/365 with GBPVR. I use the program for watching movies/playing music/game emulators and do not record anything. The system is a dual core Intel 2.6Mhz with 2GB of RAM.

I noticed that after awhile the GUI starts becoming sluggish (scrolling thru the options taking longer, etc). When I check Task Manager I see PVRX2.EXE memory usage >300MB. The other day it was around 800MB!

So a couple of days ago I restarted the exe and watched it in Task Manager. It started at around 70MB but within a couple of minutes it was almost at 100MB with doing nothing in the program. It stabilized at 100MB, but this morning it was up to 345MB. Since a couple of days ago I have only watched a downloaded TV show, rest of the time it's been idle running the GBPVR screensaver.

Is this normal?

Here are the plugins I have installed/use/active:
TV Guide
Search Guide
Video Library
Music Library
Picture Library
GameZone
MovieWiz
Weather
RSS Feeds
WebCams
NetRadio
Skin
System
Exit

Could one these plug-ins be causing the high memory usage?

Also, since I do not record anything, can I eliminate the GBPVRRecordingService.exe task from running?

I attached the logs if needed. Thanks!

Its fairly common for PVRX2.exe to use a couple of hundred MB in task manager )much of that consumed with by memory used by decoders, and for holding the TV Listings in memory). This is typically showing peak memory usage though. The app frees up memory it no longer needs, but .NET will not return it to Windows unless Windows is running short of memory elsewhere in the system.

Sure. You can set it to 'manual startup' in the Windows 'Services' control panel.

800MB isnt normal. It might be caused by a plugin though, as some of those seem pretty memory hungry. Also if you play any H.264 video, this seems to require large buffers in the video decoders, which can lead to high memory usage.

Thanks. I may do some investigating of the plug-ins and see if they are causing my high mem issue. I wonder if one of those memory freeing apps could help out with the NET thing. I used to use one on my server system a long time ago but stopped when I started running 2GB of RAM.

For the recording service, I will set it manually. Thanks again Sub!

How often do you restart your machine? Mine is set to restart daily with a little batch file and with doing that I have found that it remains sharp and error free 99% of the time. XP or vista seem to get a little flakey after a couple of days of constant running or even hibernation.

i'm having same problem..
now it uses 500 extra megs of ram everytime i play a video file with acceleration..
software decoders don't show this problem tho...[ffdshow is normal on mem]
as soon as i play it adds about 300 megs to make about 500 meg total..
then when finished playing, it goes back to normal...
same with cyberlink, ati, mainconcept decoders...
tried 4 diff video card drivers..[new options for 'maintain video smoothness' in cat 9.9]
directX?

geez, i hope i don't have to re-install windows to fix it...
any ideas?

No ideas, other than what I've already said above.

it seems to only affect ati 4000+ cards in HD...SD is using more memory as well, proportionally..[about 300 total for sd]
i went back to my older 3450 and it only shows < 200 max for both sd and hd...
i also tried same card on another machine, fresh install, same thing...

maybe is this something that's supposed to happen? ATI's new architecture?
is anybody else seeing this high mem usage?
it seems to play ok...

i bet it's the stupid drivers..
i'll try my trusted old 8.11 drivers on it..
[the 3450 seems to have no prob with same newest drivers tho]

tried 8.11 drivers and they're the same...

i give up....unless anybody else can show me less memory usage, i'll just have to assume it's the drivers...and unfixable by me...

please, somebody tell me it's not the stupid drivers again!

[xp-any sp level, vmr9 fullscreen, avivo codec]

i bet uvd2 is dxva2 only or something retarded like that..

well, looks like it has nothing to do with pvrx2...same memory issue in all programs that can use dxva...so must be the drivers or XP..

i tried cat 9.9, 8.11, 9.5...all same issue...
stick a 3450 card in, and without re-installing drivers, everything works like a charm...
i'm at a loss as to what i could try next..

h264 doesn't show high mem usage at all, so quite strange...
and dxva *is* working....[seeing expected low cpu usage and great picture..]

I checked mem usage on my working machine (Win7X64, ATIHD 4770 9.9 + SAF4.00b17

Idle is ~100MB
Playing FullHD (DXVA on) ~170MB max
[Image: hd.png]

And on XP - same video, DXVA on: (~200MB max) - same system
