Hello all,

I recently aquired a laptop running XP Media Center. The laptop came with a TV Tuner and remote. I plan on purchasing a USB HDTV Tuner to use with this laptop. I've found the following three USB HDTV Tuner's on the market:

1) OnAir USB HDTV GT Personal Video Recorder
(http://www.autumnwave.com/content/view/30/117/)

2) Cat’s Eye USB 3560 (USB-A 3560)
(specs at: http://www.vboxcomm.com/vbox/USB-A%203560.pdf)

and

3) FusionHDTV5 USB Gold
(http://www.fusionhdtv.co.kr/eng/Products/HDTV5usb.aspx)

are there any others that I should consider?

I've seen that I could get the Cat's Eye tuner for around $100, while the other tuners are over $150. However, the Cat's Eye tuner for $100 doesn't include a remote, while all the other tuners include a remote. Would I be able to use the remote bundled with this laptop with any of these USB Tuners? I also plan on using the GB-PVR software (seems to be the best PVR software that's freely available! Smile, so does anyone have any recommendations on what I should get? Any compatibility issues I should be aware of? I'd like to be able to record native HDTV that I can then burn to DVD, so I want to make sure I make the right purchase... but I'd rather spend $100 than $150, or $175... so need to know what the potential pitfalls are.

Thanks!

Sammyp42,
I am from AutumnWave Technical Support. I can speak regarding the OnAir USB HDTV GT. I have just downloaded GB-PVR and tested it using our device. It does not currently work, but I have asked for some assistance elsewhere in the forum (Supporting the OnAir USB HDTV GT - Issues)

For recording HDTV content, you could use our included software (the "OnAir USB HDTV Program"). It saves as TS/TRP/TP directly from OTA streams (or Unencrypted Digital Cable.)

While you may choose to purchase another product, I want to let you know that I'm here if you do consider purchasing the OnAir USB HDTV GT. I'll be happy to work with you to resolve any issues, or answer any additional questions.

Thanks,

I have been following your thread with Sub, and I am anxious to see a result soon, what is our gbpvr user discount with this tuner? [Big Grin]

the QAM support with GBPVR will sell this baby like hot-cakes I think [Smile]

sammyp42 & SniperDude,
If either of you (or anyone else reading this thread) has the OnAir GT, please let me know! I have a beta driver for the GT that supports GB-PVR!!

My goal is to test this driver as thoroughly as possible, and get it out to the general public. If interested in testing the beta driver, please let me know via email (tech@autumnwave.com), PM, or contacting through the website ( http://www.autumnwave.com/ )

Thanks,

Are you saying that the drivers will allow gbpvr to record HDTV via QAM reception? I am looking to build an HDTV PVR and trying to determine parts and software.

Sorry, no QAM support,

Microsoft need to provide updates to the BDA spec before we start seeing QAM support via BDA. That should happen in the next year or so.
