I'm curious as to the issues that arise in this. I can see issues with guide data, dish turning, etc. Anyone try this yet?

I use it with my C-band system. Zap2it has the guide info so I can schedule recordings in GB-PVR but I have to also set them up on the sat receiver. Kind of a PITA but I only use it far a couple shows so it isn't too big a deal. I don't know how it would work with FTA. I imagine you could set up a capture source without an EPG and then schedule stuff as manual recordings. You'd still have to set the sat receiver to move to the right sat & transponder. And that would work only if you knew the time & sat & transponder ahead of time. I would think that the sat receiver control could be done with an IR interface like HIP but I don't know if HIP can do it as-is. The IR blaster would have to be able to output the sat & transponder based on a command from GB-PVR and GB-PVR only ouputs a channel number. I can imagine a couple ways to do it*. It might be an interesting project.

*As I understand it, GB-PVR maps every channel to a channel number up to three digits. You'd have to have an IR blaster pgm that would take the channel number that GB passes to it and map that to a sat & transponder or some other sequence that your sat receiver would understand. For example G5/15 might map to channel 456 (I think you can even specify which number goes with which 'channel'). You'd have to configure the IR blaster pgm to take a 456 from GB and than send whatever sequence your sat receiver needed to get it to move to G5/15. Doesn't sound too difficult... Smile

I do. I'm waiting on Hauppauge to hook me up with irblaster codes for the coolsat fta box. until then, i have to manage gbpvr and the reciever if i want to record something. ive set up timers on my fta receiver to auto switch to a few of my programs. i have zap2it get me a guide and i do my best to make sure my fta guide matches. to some extent it does, so my shows get recorded.

search the forums, there are othe fta posts.
