Can anyone recommend a freeware software solution for chopping &/or pasting together the MPG created with GBPRV. I've done some editing with the only program I own, Nero Vision (which is not free), and it does the job okay BUT I can't seem to control the size of the file once it is saved. I do not want a program to mess with the mpg other than to cut it or paste it together; in other words, if I edit a 1.5GB file together with another 1.5GB file I expect a 3GB file - not a 10GB file.

If you've got a Hauppauge capture card/pvr device you can get a free version of nanopeg mpeg editor. They Call it "WinTV Editor", and there should be a link to it on the support page for your Hauppauge device. They ask that you provide a name and an email address before they let you download.

It only cuts on "I" frames. which means that the cuts may not be as clean as you like (it's certainly not to my liking, but it gives you more control than the automated commercial cutting programs I've tried), and the preview may not match what you end up with.

You can use it to piece together multiple files, but it is best suited for cutting things out of a single file. Also, use of the program results in a file with incorrect timeline info, which can cause problems with some players and dvd authoring tools. See http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...ine+repair
for info on how to deal with that.

If you have a Linux box, you can try GOPChop http://sourceforge.net/projects/gopchop/
I only tried that once, so I can't really comment on it.

Another option is MPG2Cut2 (http://www.geocities.com/rocketjet4/)
Still in beta but works very well.

Thanks b00sfuk - This may be my only choice since the aforementioned nanopeg edit appears to be hardware dependent and not finding my Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 150 MCE card - probably because it is installed under XP instead of MCE

Has anyone had any success using Virtual Dub on GBPvr recorded files? I take it that the default settings are slightly different than the standard MPEG2 format? Or perhaps Virtual Dub can't handle MPEG2?

What I'm wanting to do is to pull the audio from one of my recordings and then convert it to mp3. Any ideas?

Dink,
Go to http://WWW.RITA.LT and look on the left side near the bottom of the page for a linky to VirtualDubMPEG2 v1.5.10 - see if that does it for ya. I'm gonna try to use this progy to do most of my editing but still looking for something a bit more robust in the freeware arena.

Thanks ibdman. I think that is what I'm looking for and I will definitely check it out.

In the meantime, I did find a workaround for my issue though. I used mplayer to -dumpaudio to -dumpstream filename so now I have the audio I needed. I just need to pull the part I want from the extracting audio.

GOPChop is really slow..... using avidemux for editing out commericials is much easier and faster
