I hope this thread does not start a flame war.

I just Soft Modded (No chip, no soldering, no extra cost) an XBOX and installed the XBMC Media Center. It just blew me Away !!!!. My cost was about $US 100.00 for an old xbox and 3.00 for an used Exploitable game.

This thing plays just about anything that you throw at it.

DVDs with Full menu support, Subtitles, CLosed Captions Streamed from my GPVR Server, mpg1s, mpg2s with SRT Subtitles (Closed captions) from my PVR350 recordings. Avis, xvd, mp3s , you name it.

It has made me think that the Player , being an MVP, a dvd Player, the PVR350 TV out, and now the XBOX, is what really drives the Media Center Server. IT should be the most important factor on an HTPC.

I know SUB was trying at one time to do development on the XBOX and it was discarded.

Imagine, no more Converting to MPG2, no more transcoding so that the INFERIOR_AND_NOT_THAT_GOOD_AFTER_ALL_FOR_WHAT_IT_COSTS MVP can play it.

What a dream would be if we could see the GBPVR menu on the XBOX. I guess is probably a lot of work, but whenever you guys/girls have a chance, look at this extremely powerful media streamer.

Nope, no chance. I've long since sold my XBOX. Sorry.

I was afraid you would say that. Out of curiosity, is it too involved in coding, or too costly for the development ?

Its a combination of lots of things

- Fact that it is a previous generation of console now.
- Effort required to develop and support an xbox client
- Legal side of things: (1) Requiring user to have modded their xbox. (2) Having to use illegally pirated download of Microsoft SDK/XDK to build it. (3) legal isses with distributing binaries built with this pirated SDK.

It was this last item that discouraged me from doing it when I initially considered it a couple of years ago.

Got it. I guess I'll just use it to replace the MVP and continue use GBPVR to schedule recordings. Thanks for the explanation.

I also use XBMC for watching, well, everything.
It keeps getting better and better!

Support for GBPVR live tv would be very nice, but I can live with the excellent combination of GBPVR for recording and XBMC for viewing.

I think I'm a little confused on what this actually does (even after reading the website).

Why are you converting files to MPEG2 when GBPVR records directly to MPEG2? The MediaMVP plays MPEG2 without a hitch, so why does it have to be transcoded from MPEG2 (after converting it to MPEG2 for whatever reason)? I think I must be missing something. I've also downloaded DivX versions of TV shows that I missed recording with GBPVR for one reason or another, and they've played just fine via the MVP.

The GBPVR interface and live TV via the MVP makes it difficult to call it inferior. Honestly, my MediaMVPs have been the most stable part of my GBPVR system lately! Of course, my feelings for the MVP could also spurred by the fact that 5 out of the 6 MVPs that I purchased were only $39 on closeout at RadioShack... Wink

GBPVR system info intentionally left blank because I'm personally
insulted that you can't remember it from previous signatures.

I have to agree with Pilot.

The MVP is pretty good at what it does. It may not do as much as an Xbox, but its also a lot cheaper. I also got mine for $39 each.

XBMC maybe a great media player, but if doesnt have the GB-PVR interface, then its useless to me. I'd much rather have MVPs with full GB-PVR interface.

I love XBMC - its great for play back which tbh I use in the bed room. Although I don't have a full setup I do find it works quite well.

JFYI - if you have TV Versity set up uPNP will work with the latest version of XBMC ( Which was the main reason I got one ).

Plus have a look at ... http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Skin/...hemePacks?
