I hate editing the config settings in notepad. This machine is a PVR, not a development environment.

What's a good free xml editor that isn't a resource hog?

Try downloading ConTEXT. It has modes for most file types you will ever find. And it is small =)
I'm not always right

hmm. it's just another notepad replacement though. It hilights the nodes, but it doesn't let you move/drag nodes around easily or expand-collapse sections, or copy/paste from other xml files. Which is what I usually need to do with xml files.

Notepad++ has dragging, and it does allow you to expand-collapse sections. I copy and paste into it all the time. It also is multi-tabbed.

There is a xml tools plugin (optional) that checks the xmls for valid structure.

There are other suggestions also, there has been other threads which asked the same thing.

I like NotePad++ myself...

I use it for a complete notepad replacement and edit pretty much any text file with it... XML/ASP/C#/VB/TXT/unix SH etc... and its 100% free

I have tried other, but always end up going back to NotePad++.

Another thing I left out is the line numbers. They also print out, which is handy.
