I have the most vexing issue with gbpvr, after playing a DVD inside gbpvr and returning to the menu system--no audio, not anywhere on my system. The only fix I have found is to restart in safe mode, delete my sound card and completely reinstall it. The sound does not come back after a simple reboot. Does anyone know more about how this thing plays DVDs that would cause this?

The audio is fine throughout until I play a DVD and then it is fine until I finish the DVD and return to gbpvr--I am very frustrated!!

I have even tried two different sound cards using different chipsets, etc.

Here's what I have figured out thus far, my system (Dell PowerEdge 400SC) has an embedded sound chipset (SoundMAX). Because it is marketed by Dell as a server there were no drivers provided for this. I have been using this system as a desktop and installed a SoundBlaster PCI card. I have been using this set-up for over two years with no sound difficulties. I have played games on it, DVDs, VLC video, Windows Media, etc.

Then I transitioned this machine to my living room as an HTPC and installed gbpvr which for some reason, when I exit back from playing a DVD from within it somehow switches to the uninstalled sound chipset and a "multimedia controller" with no driver mysteriously appears in the device manager. I have found the drivers for this chipset online and uninstalled my SoundBlaster card and so far all appears to be well.

I can transition back and forth between DVDs and TV with no loss of audio. I would still prefer to use the SB since it has an optical out, etc. If any generous person could help me figure out why gbpvr activates this chipset instead of continuing to use the only "installed" sound device  I would certainly appreciate it.

I did not intend to do anything more than "play" with gbpvr while my HTPC software of choice came in, but I have fallen in love with it. It is a truly wonderful package and I love the degree of customization I have very quickly been able to achieve with it. My only fond hope is to have a clear QAM capable HD tuner card come available that would be supported by this centre. I trust it is only a matter of time and have a 'workaround' for the time being that I am okay with (recording programming on my Mac with the EyeTV 500 then exporting it to the 400SC and playing using VLC).

Thanks for your attention and please feel free to ask any questions that might help in diagnosing this issue.
