I first tried installing GB-PVR a couple of months ago, but gave up when I couldn't solve its errors. After reading that there might have been a conflict with that particular release of the program and XP x64, I'm trying again.

Tuner: Hauppauge 150
OS: Windows XP x64
Release: 09808

I'm getting the same errors as last time. I have reinstalled both GB-PVR itself, and .NET 1.1 and .NET 2.0 (for x64). Upon exiting configuration, the following box pops up: "Windows Service Start Failure: Cannot start service from the command line or a debugger. A Windows Service must first be installed (using installutil.exe) and the started with the ServerExplorer, Windows Services Administrative tool or the NET START command." This box also pops up when I boot Windows, presumably because GB-PVR is trying to launch at start-up. This is obviously a .NET problem.

If I start the program itself via shortcut, when I click on LiveTV, I get the following error: "Error: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it". No idea what this is about--sounds like a networking issue. I'm not trying to do anything with GB-PVR over a network, though.

Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you for your time.

Anyone have any ideas? I want to record Prison Break tomorrow night. :p

Should I try installing the x86 version of .NET 2.0? Or will that conflict with the x64 version I already have installed?

It's definitely a bug, or I've failed to set something up properly. The default WinTV program works fine, as does the BeyondTV trial.

I dont think there is anyone here using x64 version of Windows, so you're probably on your own on this one. Its certainly not something I test. Sorry.

Well, I did a forum search and came up with this and this.

I understand why you can't test with it--frankly, I wish I wasn't stuck using it. I mean, it works great--compatibility's just a pain. At any rate, there are fans of your program who use it. I just need one of them to pop into my thread. ;P Have either of my errors showed up for non-x64 users?

Does anyone have a copy of v96.12 that I can try?

MS installers these days are pretty good about telling you whether or not you can do something - if it allows you to install it then you might be OK.

Then again.....my motto is 'Hey! Let's hit it and see what happens!' Smile

I have XP X64 but I run GBPVR on as 32 bit version was not able to get it to run on 64 bit, for thsoe that don't know most 32 bit code will not run at 64 bit, AMD will fall back to 32 bit mode but Intel does not unless it is supported in the new DUO chip, I don't run Intel CPU's since the days of the 486 battle so I am not sure if it does support 32 bit apps or not.

I have an AMD 64 3200+, and I run all programs with the exception of some AV/firewalls fine. In this case, for all I know, it isn't even XP x64 that's the problem.

I dont remember seeing problem when exiting the config app. The "Error: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it" is common and just means the recording service is not running.

If you go into Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services, is the 'GBPVR Recording Service' listed?

Listed, but not started. When I try to start it, I get that "Service Start Failure" message. That's what's happening when I exit config and boot into Windows, then. It's trying to load and failing.

Is there a GBPVRRecordingService.exe.log? If so, post it.

If not, then is there an entry in the Windows Event Viewer saying what happened?
