No live TV just snow and static

Hi all,

First to admit I am a newb here. Have a WIN TV PVR 150 installed with my MCE operating system. Connection is from satellite (Expressvu in Canada) STB box via coax.

Went through the config process and had no trouble adding the capture source and Zap2it succesfully downloaded my guide. When I start the GPBVR however I only receive snow and static for live TV. The remote does change the channels so I know it's not an IR issue, but no picture or sound.

Been trying to scour the net for an answer, but I think it has something to do with the video decoder? I have no problem playing DVD's so I should have a decoder on my system I would think? Is there a specific decoder I need to play back video for GBPVR? :confused: Beyond TV gives me picture and sound but no remote control access...strange.

Sorry if this doesn't make sense. Any help would be appreciated.

P.S I know wth this card there are tons of drivers to make it compatible with MCE and I have downloaded all the latest from Hauppauge.

Does the tuner card work with any other app? Like, the app the card came with...

Actually the reason I went with GBPVR is because I could not get it to work with the app it came with WINTV 2000. Again static.

However as mentioned earlier the card does give me picture, sound and manual channel changing with Beyond TV with no remote control access though.

Looks like you have the wrong channel on the card. Find out what channel the satellite box outputs to on the coax, and make sure when setting up gb-pvr, you are looking at that channel. Alternatively, try connecting through s-video or composite.

Thanks for the response, I am positive I have the right channel (3) as Beyond TV works somewhat.

I guess the video decoder is a non issue? I think in config it is set to system default or something. Do I need a specific decoder?

By channel we mean frequencey. Some usefull screenshots on a similar setup to yours here. He has an external STB on a constant channel, like your Sattelite box should be outputting.

I will have to have a relook at my config since I am at work but I am pretty sure the frequiency needs to be set to channel 3 for expressvu.

The screen shots were extremely helpful. From what I can see, I think what I am missing in the config part is the source "Fixed channel, external tuner", which my STB is. I think I am confused in thinking my WINTV PVR is the tuner but it is actually the STB? The WIN TV PVR should be set to capture device #1 I am assuming.

Also the tuning field, I think I have it set to cable but it should be to antenna? Sorry for the newb questions here.

If I still can't get it to work I can post screen shots of my config screens if that helps!

Success! Full audio and video finally! My configutation was wrong, those screen shots did the trick.

Still having trouble configuring the WINTV remote to work properly though, the channel changer executable does not sem to be working correctly but I can live with that. My STB remote works without the IR blaster needed so I think I will just stick with that!

I use Bell Express Vu as well and I constantly have to open WINTV and close at startup to get the tuner card to "connect" and then GBPVR works fine. . . maybe I am having a similiar issue. I'll have to check out those screenshots. . .
