I can image those using the star trek skin would love to be able to issue voice commands to it....

or maybe ..... open the pod bay doors hal...

An intriguing idea though.

Core2-E2180, 1G RAM, 1Gb-5450 Silent, 2Tb +300g HDDs.
Three tuners: [SIZE=2][SIZE=1]Twinhan DVB-T x 1, Hauppauge Nova 500T (dual)

DTB Digital SD + HD content (PAL-MPEG2-AC3).
Custom case made very quiet. Zalman CPU cooler.
Sits in rack with other HiFi.

ParaLED to show tuner activity.

i'v seen the dragon naturally speaking software, even if it worked good I'd imagine you would need a powerfull microphone to be able to hear you......

Well, I'd hate to see my hard drive purge itself because I watching that episode of Battlestar Galactica where they had to re-install the galactica's OS. Big Grin

Using Homeseer's voice recognition engine I'm able to control my MVP via voice. On a spoken command it sends IR codes thru a USB UIRT that operates the MVP. I've only setup a few commands, mostly for music. I can tell it to play music and it starts the jukebox playing. It's convenient for start up, picking certain songs or genre's would be a little cumbersome unless you did whole IR events that triggered on a command word. Shouldn't be too difficult, i just haven't done it yet.

Also it doesn't work near as well for turning it off, depending on the volume level. Smile

I have the speech plugin for Girder installed and have created a fair amount of voice commands to control it. One of the first things you need is a USB noise cancelling microphone Or even better a bluetooth headset / microphone. USB mics are better than normal mics as they are "powered mics" and generally perform better.

I did find however that even with a noise cancelling mic you need to have it placed in an area so that you don't have to scream your commands over the sound of the speakers lol and if you have an entertainment hutch... putting the mic in there doesn't work well either.

I also have played with Dragon naturally speaking and it performs so much better than the girder voice plugin that I am using so I would persue that route if I had to do it all over again.

hope this helps.. oh and this totally adds to the coolness factor of the HTPC !!! I walk in and say "Hello Computer" and it responds with "Hello Don, How was your day?"... if you really wanted to you could program a whole response chain or some how interface with one of those intelligent response programs like A.L.I.C.E (www.pandorabots.com
