ok, excuse me if I don't know much about the program, the configuration is a little odd. I've been using gbpvr for some time now, and havn't really had any complaints, other than the learning curve required to set it up, but at the same time it helps the user gain familiarity and understanding. I'm using the VMR9 decoder, as the custom version wouldn't resize full screen correctly. Now, in the config, if i set the aspect ratio to 4:3, or 16:9, there is no difference. Also, hitting f7 does nothing. I have a widescreen monitor, so when I play live tv in fullscreen, the black bars are present, and it makes the picture look quite small, and reminds me that I'm not actually using all of my display. If anyone has any suggestions, please, send them this way!

What video decoder are you using?

A couple of possibilities:

1) You're using a Cyberlink decoder with VMR9, but it is not compatible with VMR. This results in the OSD not working, and aspect ratio not changing when requested.

2) You're using a decoder that defaults to trying to retain the original aspect ratio, like the nvidia one. In this case you need to view the decoder settings and set it to anamorphic, which allows GB-PVR to control the aspect ratio

3) You're using a post processing filter like ffdshow which is trying to manage the aspect ratio.

its in config, under the playback tab. you can select the decoder there.

aside, I have never understood why people stretch images to fit their display device when it results in distortion.

I already told you, i'm using the VMR9 decoder. It doesn't tell me anything else. I just wanna see how it looks. I remember on my roomates widescreen tv, we'd watch standard def in widescreen, but it didn't look all that stretched. Not sure how to achieve that here...seeing as how F7 still doesn't do anything.

What options does it give you other than system default? If you dont get any others listed, then you need to install a compatible MPEG2 decoder.

I can't select anything other than system default. How does gb-pvr work if I have no mpeg2 decoder installed?? the system default must be something.
