Need advice on home Automation plugin

I am looking for a plug-in or what have you that would allow to have a set of buttons on a sub menu screen that sends commands out a serial port. I'll use this to communicate with my home automation system which can then run a macro.

OR

A screen of buttons to send commands to an X-10 CM11a interface.

I am not using Homeseer so the plugin for it may not work but it might be a good place to start for simple X-10 control.

I have heard of Girder which might work as a shim but it seems excessive to have a separate program to init a com port and poke a byte out.

I would also want to be able to display this on any connected TV or client.

there is an app on here, motchanger.exe, that sends bits over a serial cable, I forget if the source comes with it or not, but I am sure you can get it from the author if you ask. you should be able to take a look at that and figure out how to push bits over serial. or there is always google.

for something specific like this, you are either going to have to get really lucky and find a develpoer who is bored and will just make it for you for fun (unlikely) or make it yourself, so I suggest looking at plugin source code and trying to figure out how they work.
