Hello all,

I did search, but haven't found the info about how to setup GB-PVR to stream DD audio via SPDIF to be processed by external DD / DTS receiver (build in decoder) that connects to 5.1 speaker set.
I'm getting just 2 ch. at Live and from recording via SPDIF.
Looks like I'm missing something, but what and where?
I don't need DD decoder - do I? I want record mpeg2 "as is" with 5.1 DD audio as it comes from OTA.

My audio setup works Ok. I tested it with BeyondTV, where I'm getting DD via SPDIF at Live and from Recorded mpeg. Also any DVD I play via PowerDVD comes with DD or DTS.

Thanks for help.
Best Regards.
Mike.

This isnt a GB-PVR thing as such, but rather options in your soundscard/audio decoder setup. It varies from card to card and decoder to decoder.

If you use the forum search you'll find posts that have talked about this in the past.

Thank you very much for such promt reply. Big Grin

I think that I don't have to touch my hardware - sound card setup; as it works just fine with other applications with PCM audio output stream.

And, yes it's about audio codec setup.
I think that I have to select the right one audio codec in GB-PVR and set it right to pass audio part without decoding / encoding directly to SPDIF output.

I'm not expert in Audio streams and codecs - far from it.
I'm looking for he info in some simple way that I can use to setup DD audio.
Something like that:
select audio codec/decoder in screen "A" in selector "B"
select or set such settings for the codec.

Some how I get transcoded audio from DD 5.1 to 2ch in resulting mpeg.
I tested the resulting mpeg2 by PowerDVD and it shows in info for audio just 2ch. , where by using ATI CMC for recording I got full 5.1 DD in recording, but 2ch from LiveTV.

That's all about do configuration right, but where? That's what I'm looking for.
Best Regards.

As I said above, if you use the forum search you'll find posts that have described how to do this in the past. Search for stuff like '5.1 spdif' and I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for.

I dont really know much about your setup, but assuming you're in the US and using an ATSC HDTV card, then it'll record AC3 audio. There is no manipulation of the audio stream - it goes straight through the mux to disk. I know the Cyberlink and Microsoft DVR-MS mux do this correctly, but I'm not sure about other muxes.

google and download ac3filter from sourceforge and use it for your audio decoder. go into the ac3filter config app and enable spdif output. that should sort you out.
interestingly you can also set it to encode mpeg audio into ac3 so your amplifier will constantly receive a DD stream if you get fed up of it switching between prologic for tv and DD for DVD....
the ac3filter help site is not brilliantly written (all credit to it's creator though, I'm just guessing English may be a second language), but does contain lots of info if youy need more help

Hello,

Thanks a lot.
I updated my ac3filter to the new one and I found AC3 in the last Output option and that made the trick Big Grin

As result I got Live and recorded HDTV (USA) via ATI 650 Pro with 5.1 DD via SPDIF just fine :p

Thanks again for the help.

p.s. I have other questions that I'll ask in another thread
Best Regards.
Mike.
