Sub,

since version 98.8 I have had messages about Received unknown request of type: xx when I use my mvp, I am now using 98.13 and they are still occuring

they dont seem to cause any problem other than make the logs very big.

the other problem which does cause grief is the return of the message MVP Timer Refresh Error:

this causes the mvp to reload and I have now had 3 occurences since upgrading to 98.13, they last time I had these was in the 97.xx series

the mvp is connected via cross over cable directly to the PC

any advice gratefully received

Are you using the version of dongle.bin that came with GB-PVR v0.98.13?

Can you post a log with the logging level set to debug?

yes I'm using the stock dongle, I'll generate a new log tonight at debug level

Hi Sub,

attached are logs at debug level as requested showing errors described, typically it took about 12 hours to generate the fault so plenty of logs

the MVP Timer Refresh error can be seen in gbpvr.exe-1.log almost at the end at 25/10/2006 12:16

the unknown request of type error can be seen in gbpvr.exe-2.log at 25/10/2006 12:04:02 and probably several other places as well these seem to happen just after entries like
25/10/2006 12:04:02.312 VERBOSE [22] Responding to ping
25/10/2006 12:04:02.312 VERBOSE [22] getValue cached value: /settings/DisableHauppaugeMVPScreenSaver : true

I dont know how long the unknown request type errors have been happening as I said they dont seem to cause a problem as such

the MVP timer refresh seem to have started with the 97.xx series
did not occur in 98.8 and have re-appeared in 98.13

I was using the blue skin and playing music randomly using musiclibrary2 ver 4.2

I use the default dongle and the mvp is connected via a crossover cable to a second ethernet card in my pc running gbpvr the first network card is used for internet access

let me know if there is anything else you need

To be honest, I'm not really sure. I cant see any obvious cause in your logs.

Thats rather what I expected, the logs dont really show anything as it seems to be some outside influence which causes the timer reset, thanks for looking anyway !!

My take on your logs growing fast is that you are getting a log entry for every 2000 bytes read.

25/10/2006 12:13:30.593 VERBOSE [23] Request 2000 bytes (file size:4227072 file location: 3684000)

yes but thats because sub asked me to turn on debug messages

at my normal level of info the logs are much smaller but still much larger than they were before filled with lots of lines of

Received unknown request of type: xx

as I said these dont seem to cause a problem I'm just puzzled as to what is causing them

there is one other post about them but it seems to be from someone who was using a form of ethernet over power to connect the mvp and once they added a switch before the MVP the problem vanished

in my case I'm directly connected to the pc via a crossover cable, but I am thinking of putting a switch in this weekend to see if it makes any difference

the real problem is the return of the MVP timer refresh which causes the mvp to reset itself

this did not occur in 96.12 started in the 97.xx series , but disappeared in 98.8 but has returned in 98.13

the logs show nothing particularily untoward from gbpvrs point of view yet it must have something to do with it, otherwise why would it happen in some releases but not others, I feel its a setting of some description on my system as no one else seems to be bothered by it

my system is almost exclusivly used for streaming music so I am also going to give your dongle and slimserver a run this weekend and see what happens with it

as I said if anyone has any suggestions I'd be most grateful

The timer refresh occurs every second, and during this time it talks to the MVP. The errpr is just saying that during one of these attempts to talk to the MVP, it found it was no longer connected. ...so is not really caused by the timer refresh, but rather the timer refresh happens to be the first time it notices the MVP has disconnected because of something that happened earlier. I hope that makes sense.

tkgafs, since you talked about trying mvpmc emulation mode to see if it resolves the problem (and I think that is a good first step) here is some ways it might help.

- in emulation mode I always tell gbpvr to send 20,000 bytes audio
streams, even if debugging is on and gbpvr seems to respect this, while
still saving the verbose logging messages. My goal isn't 100%
emulation, I sometimes make changes and this was too fine a resolution
for me.

- I stopped sending ping type heartbeats to gbpvr while streaming audio
because of those error type messages and instead ask for a screen
refreshs which seems to work reliably for me with gbpvr and Hauppauge.

- the fact that the alpha dongle stays full duplex could remove the
need to add a switch.

- I've modified the networking which greatly reduces the number of
network retransmissions which might be causing some of your problems.
If anyone has ever seen an ethereal trace of MediaMVP traffic you will
know what I'm talking about.

Also I read about the audio plugin that you use on the wiki and it
seems really interesting and I'm going to give it a try. I too use the
mvpmc mainily for audio but still looking for ways to get better WAF.
