Right, have DYNdns set up, can see my router login page fine, updates ip fine, thats all beautiful

Have pinholed the appropriate port

Works with localhost:7647 etc etc login fine

Have disabled all firewalls

tried putting my pc in the DMZ, no avail

Is there any easy way to see which step im failing at? cant find any easy information on the forums or in the wiki on 'net troubleshooting for access...

Since you can login on the local machine that tells me that EWA is working. The problem is getting from your router to or into your machine.

Are you port forwarding 7647 on the router to the ip of your gbpvr machine?

yes, i certainly am. I will try other machines on the network today too, see if that helps. The router is not the best (dlink one, wouldnt buy dlink again)... can be a pain. Will do some more checking.

Sounds a bit like ShingDragon's problem a while ago. He fixed it by installing IIS, which shouldn't be necessary in the first place.

Ok...just to confirm......you have two entries in your router....one for TCP 7647 (port start, end & map) and one for 7648 (port start, end & map).

If so....then when you go here and check port 7647 and 7648 what result do you get?

Now start a stream and check the 7648 port.....what do you get?

not bothering with streaming

The 7647 one says 'success, we can see your service running' etc.

Can get to this pc from others on the network now, just having trouble doing it externally... what exactly should the URL be? its really not clear...
If i try to log into my ip, i can log into my router... but redirection of ports doesnt seem to be working as expected.
Thanks for the help thus far Smile

http://YOUR_EXTERNAL_IP:7647/gbpvr/index.aspx

Where 7647 is the port specified in the config app and forwarded in the router

To get your external IP visit http://www.whatsmyip.org/ or similar

Some routers do not support loopback so you may not be able to test your external connection from within your local network - set it up and try it from elsewhere...

If you mostly use your own laptop, (or have access to a computer at work with admin access) the best option I have found is to use Hamachi (from http://www.hamachi.cc). Load it up on both computers, ceate a new network, and enter that info into both computers. Then from your distant computer type in the 5.X.X.X:7647/gbpvr. No need to messing with the NAT router. The IP given by hamachi is fixed (there is no reason for dynamic DNS service). Not a perfect solution, but is simple for those using a single computer w/ admin privileges.

The other thing that helped was to make GBPVR not restrict access to my LAN. There was an entry on the large Enhanced Web Admin thread located elsewhere on how to do this.

Also I have had better luck w/ the new edition of GBPVR (98.13) vs the last (98.8) in terms of server uptime. I am not sure if that was just my senario or changes in the server version that made a difference.

Hope that helps.
