After 1 day playing with this program. I have a few requests:

1. make it possible to add additional harddrives/partitions in the video menu. And also to select a different drive or directory by browsing. For example when I insert my removable harddisk, I would like to play the programs stored on that disk.

2. Make live TV NOT to immediately record the live stream. Why? Just record when you hit pause. That is the showshifting. I like to surf the channels.

3. Only record the live video streams if the streaming server is enabled. So, if you select a channel via the streaming server, then it can buffer a few megabytes before sending to the client PC. I have no problems with a 30 second delay.

4. Teletext recording and showing? I am deaf and I would love to simply record a show and just have my TV enter page 888 or even page 100 if I wanted. The Hauppauge card PVR 350 is able to record teletext? Is it?

5. Recording shows: I want my computer to record programs in this way: IF PC is on standby, wake up computer, record the show and then go back to sleep. This is nice for users who have a dedicated digital HD PVR. If a mouse is moved (or other action indication like watching a DVD at the same time). The program should still go to standby if it detects no activity after 10 minutes. (say when the screensaver kicks in, then tell to go back to standby).

For the rest.. Good work!

The wake up and record feature is already there. Well it is in XP. It should work in 2000 as well. I have my machine in hibernate all the time and it wakes up and records shows for me.

The power management software takes care of shutting (hibernating) the machine down for me. The machine goes to standby after 5 mins idle time, the after hibernates after about 10 minutes.

Cheers,
Colin.

Beowulf,

Teletext viewing is "relatively" simple - you can create a graph to view teletext using Graphedit... the problem would be linking the 888 captions to the mpeg stream if you were recording (you would have to render them into the mpeg or store them separately and overlay - tricky).

It should be easier for live tv on the PC, but moving that to the TV out on the PVR350 may not be possible.

Cheers,
Andy

Beowulf,

I dont really know too much about teletext and the VBI information, but I will be looking into it when I get a chance.

Regarding the LiveTV thing. Like you I'm also a channel surfer, and find it quite painful using these PC solution which usually take between 2 and 10 seconds to change channels. I will look into the new preview feature of the Hauppauge drivers which allow you *near* instant channel changing, but it have to wait until after the existing buffered LiveTV support is functioning well and a few other features have been finished.

The buffering model I'm currently implementing is the natural progression from the client/server recording scheduler that GB-PVR start out providing. It only really differs in that you're playing back a file that is still recording. The model you describe is much more difficult, and doesn't fit in as easily with having recording servers distributed in different machines (or different processes on the same machine).

To minimize the pain of waiting for the channel change, I did add the mini guide so you can scroll through the guide overlaid on the current channel and only need 'commit' to channel change when you see some program you'd like to watch. yeah, ok...not the same thing, but it does take the edge off slightly.

Sub, is it possible to browse through the mini-guide without committing to changing channel? Could this be used for informtion purpose and only when you see something you really want to change to you press return (or ok on the remote)?

Cheers,
Colin.

Colin, press the green button (or ctrl-G) to bring up the mini guide. Up or down scrolls through whats on. Press enter to change channels, or the green button (ctrl-G) to cancel the mini guide.

ok, will try that. Currently pressing up arrow displays the mini-guide, then pressing up again will change the channel for me in mini-guide and live-tv. Bug or feature?

Cheers,
Colin.

Certainly doesn't change channels here when the mini guide is up.

I'll check tonight to see if i can reproduce the problem. Maybe this was something that happened to me in an older version.

Hello Sub and others.
Thanks for the tips and feedback. [Image: biggrin.gif]
Imagine, if you could enable teletext recording...wooot. That program will be famous.
But ofcourse, step by step. A house is also built from foundation to roof and not randomly everywhere. [Image: tounge.gif]
