Are there any plans to support the HDHomeRun device?

To be honest I'd never heard of it, so no - I have no plans to do anything with this.

I came here looking for HDHomeRun info. I thought a little background on the HDHomeRun might be good since the original poster did not give any background, in case the question comes up again.

Background: The HDHomeRun is a dual tuner network appliance for 8-VSB (ATSC) and QAM64/256 signals. It streams the tuner output onto the LAN via UDP, suitable for receiving with VLC as a network stream. No BDA drivers (yet, anyway).

Manufacturer: Silicondust Engineering

Sorry, I did lapse on supplying info. That post on the HDHR forums is actually how I learned of gbpvr. I like gbpvr better than anything else out there (including myth).

I was able to get it working thanks to the External Recorder plugin.

Here's the software needed along with instructions.

Note: to use it with "Live TV" you have to turn off the "Use Live Preview mode" option in the gbpvr's config.

I can confirm that it works. Big Grin

The picture is far better than the HD programming I get from DirecTV.

Thank you very much for sharing this. The HDHomeRun is very intriguing, especially since I could locate it elsewhere on my network vs putting it inside or near my PVR.

What file format do your recordings get written to, and what resolution and bitrate?

Here is a snapshot I took in VLC while watching a space program on PBS HD. The image size is 1920x1088.

It's a very nice piece of equipment and I thought it was a perfect compliment to this great software. Sub has done a great job here. Unfortunately, I don't think this device would be of much use to him, or I'd buy him one for Christmas.

My program simply has VLC capture the MPEG2 transport stream with ps encapsulation. (I read somewhere on the forums that gbpvr can play ps but not ts streams and it gave me the idea.) The resolution and bitrate that it captures is whatever is being broadcast. This varies by station/cable service so I can't give you exact specs. For me, I get all most networks in 1080i with varying bitrates with the exception of FOX which is 720p. One thing I should mention though, is that the subprograms are filtered so they only thing you capture is the actual show that you want, not the ENTIRE stream.

My channel 3 has the following subchannels so if for some ungodly reason you only wanted to capture 3.2 it would be a smaller file than if you captured 3.1

3.1 1080i NBC 16:9 ~13MBs
3.2 480i NBC 4:3 ~2MBs (Don't ask, I dont know why and no one can tell me)
3.3 480i Wea+ 4:3 ~1.6MBs
3.4 480i Tube 4:3 (I don't know on this one but I can find out)

If you want to cut down the size, you can do postprocessing. I am also working on the ability to pass extra parameters to VLC but I may wait for the next firmware update because of extra features they are adding to the device and changing the way commands are passed to it. They are usually pretty quick about getting them out.

If you have anymore questions, I'll be glad to answer them as best I can.
