I'd like to see an archive system that could be used to separate shows you want to watch soon from shows that you want to save for later.

I suspect that my recording habits are pretty common -- I have one set of shows I record to watch as soon as I get time and another set that I either want to save to watch for later or move offline.

Here is how I would like it to work:

There would be a recordings button for "Archive" which would list those shows in that category.

You would have an option on the record screen to set recordings to go directly into the archive list.

You would also have the option when clicking on a show that is in the main list or the archive list to move it to the other list.

I was thinking about this and I think I have come up with a simple and elegant way to provide the type of functionality I was talking about in my previous post.

How about an option to list all shows only once on the main "ready recordings" list? If there is just one of that show, then selecting the show brings it up as it does now. If there are two or more episodes of the show, selecting the show would bring up the list of episodes.

This would make a very clean recordings list for those of us that record a lot of multi-episode shows, yet it would require no pre-planning or user manipulation to keep it organized.

I have a plugin which groups recordings by show title. So if you record 2 episodes of the west wing. You will only see one on the main menu of the ready list. When you select that item, you will see all of the west wings below. Is this the functionality you are looking for?

It groups the ready list, pending list and the video directory. You can move a show from the ready list to the video directory in the plugin, saving your show information.

You can also group by channel number by hitting ctrl-y.

And it lets you sort by hitting ctrl-g

That sounds exactly like what I was looking for. I'll check it out. I never thought to look for something like that as a plug-in.

You might also look at the Video Archiver plug-in, which, as you might guess from the name, manges archiving your recordings.
