Release Notes:

0.3.1

* Automated Directory Transcoding has been implemented. You can specify individual folders to transcode or you can specify that all files in your recording folder get transcoded. There is also support for a secondary transcode directory.
* With Automated Directory Transcoding enabled, any partially transcoded files (because of power outage, error, etc) are re-added to the queue.
* Automated Directory Transcoding can be set to periodically rescan directories. NOTE: This uses a one line VBS script. (Thanks Eric Phelps)
* Options are reorganized to make it easier to beginners to configure. Only the Quickstart part of the settings is needed for minimal setup.
* The file cleanup option has been modified. Now you can specify what related files need to be deleted.
* Added pillarbox profile for HDTV shows that are broadcast with black bars on the sides. This profile crops out the bars before scaling.
* Adjusted volume when encoding HD content. (old 4 - new 3)
* General script cleanup. If you drop a video on it, the output is easier to read.
* Philips DVP642 support. I was given a Philips DVP642 Divx-enabled dvd player. I only had to make slight changes to the script to get it to work. I’d like some feedback on this.
* GMC is turned off by default for compatibility reasons. If can be reenabled if desired. (set dvp642=no)
* Preliminary iRiverH3xx support.

Because of the amount of changes, I'd like some feedback if possible.

I am checking this out.....looks like an excellent utility. I'll let you know how I make out.

Would it be possible to have an option for the automatic scanning that would just monitor all subdirectories in a folder rather than having to manually enter each folder you want to monitor.....while also leaving the ability to only monitor slected folders if someone chooses. Such as:

transcode_directories="All" monitors all subdirectories automatically
transcode_directories="You Bet Your Life" only monitors that one sub directory

I have like 30 subdirectories and It would be a pain to have to enter all of them.....

transcode_directories will transcode the listed directories.
secondary_transcode_directory is recursive and will transcode all sub-folders.

secondary_transcode_directory sounds like what you're looking for.

How did you know what mencoder parameters made DVP 642 compatible files? Besides the obvious of course. Do you have documentation?
E6400, 2 GB RAM ,500 GB + 250 GB HD, PVR150+ Adaptec 3610, RW 2 + HIP, Antec 2480 w/ mini ninja ...still using v 0.99

No documentation. I just created a profile and made sure that GMC,QPEL, etc were disabled. I got that from the manual. I've watched about a half-dozen transcodes and so far they all look great. I'm not sure if my DVP642 has a newer firmware which may be more compatible because creating the profile was faster than I anticipated which is why I asked for some feedback.

I have an update on the DVP642 testing. I'm getting some progressive AV sync issues on longer transcodes. I should have more info once I get some testing done.

Since I use NTSC should this line:

set video_fps=24000/1001

be set to:

set video_fps=30000/1001

That setting is for the output FPS. The script automatically detects the input fps. Settings the output FPS to 24000/1001 gives you the best quality-to-size ratio. I would only set the video_fps to 30000/1001 if playback is problematic. Perhaps I'll rename that variable to make it easier to set.

At 24000/1001 I can feel jerkiness in the video playback.....I did transcode on episode at 30000/1001 and the jerkiness went away....perhaps it is just me.
