my configuration:
GBPVR 0.9813
Wireless MediaMVP (Model 86017 Rev H3 Lot 2206)

MVP -(RCA/Composite)-> RF Modulator -(Coaxial)-> TV
(OR)
MVP -(RCA/Composite)-> TV

The only MVP configuration is Video set to NTSC.

I get the GBPVR application on my TV, but my video is black and white.

I have found no resolutions to this on the Wiki or SHSPVR.

sigh,
if you run the app on the pc are the videos in color?
if you view the videos in a different application are they in color?
is only the video in black an white, or the whole front end?
is it a color TV?
have you hooked up a DVD player to the composite inputs of the TV?
have you tried changing AV cables?

and any more information about what you are doing would be much appreciated, this isnt much to go on

I dont have much experience with MVPs but I know the right questions to ask to help narrow down the problemWink

I assume the DVD looked fine (color and all), and since you did that, use the same cables that you used with the DVD player. although I doubt it would be that... since composite carries chroma and luma on the same wire, where in svideo they are separate wires... which makes me think. is there an svideo switch on the MVP? because I know that if you are expecting svideo the composite line will only carry luma information.. my TV is wierd.

and fyi since you probably dont know luma = light or brightness (black and white) and chroma = color

It makes sense that there would be a configurable parameter or switch to jump from composite to s-video and vice versa since the mvp offers composite and s-video output. Via the MediaMVP configuration screens I've found no way to select the type of output.

Maybe a setting in the gbpvr? Will have to check the config.xml when I get home.

When you load the hauppauge software you'll have the setup or settings option where you can set e.g. s-video/rgb etc.

edit: maybe this only occurs when you reload the dongle (unplug the mvp).

My US NTSC model MVP was initially black and white on my PAL TV, until I went into the Hauppauge MVP software and switched it from NTSC to PAL.

I don't recall an area in the hauppauge software to specifically set s-video or composite. The only configuration area I've found is actually in the MediaMVP server software's front end; Settings -> Configuration. But there is no option I can find to jump between composite and s-video.

I've jumped between NTSC and PAL with no change.

From a search on videohelp.com:

Quote:
If you feed an S-Video input (4 pin mini-DIN) with a composite (yellow phono) signal you'll get a black and white picture (as S-Video separates the lumina and chroma signals, composite doesn't). Do you have a menu setting on your Sky box to tell it what to output from the scart? Most DVD players and Freeview boxes do, so I supect your Sky box will too. Scart can cater with composite video, S-Video and component video (separate red, green and blue). The unit will send it's output to whichever scart pins you have told it to send to, but only once you told it.

Could it be that your rf-modulator is expecting s-video.

I have tried on a TV with RCA inputs (removing the RF-mod altogether) and the situation was not resolved. For this reason, I feel it is a setting within the MediaMVP hard/soft ware.
