Just bought an wireles mvp and was hoping to play dvds without converting them to mpeg2 with mp2 sound first.

I have installed the nevest vlc and deamon tools. The XDVD "fiks" is also installed. Whenever I try to play a vob file or a dvd iso, nothing happens.

I also tried to play dvds from my video plugin, then the whole system crash.

What have i done wrong? please help!!!

BTW: sorry for my bad English

check the batch files and specially the vlc.exe path...make sure it's correct for your machine..
[personally i use mencoder in my batch file..]
also check task manager to see if vlc is running at all..
also may want to reset vlc settings to defaults if you've changed much..
also try running the batch file manually to see what's going on..
and yes, need the xdvd patch for sqlite db..Smile
hope that gets ya started wtih more info

also, have you tried playing the dvddisk directly? [check settings.xml in the xdvd skin dir]

Hi!
I have been browsing around xdvd posts for some time now. It seems to me that noone is actively maintaining xdvd any longer. E.g. the xdvd sqlite patch is not in the download zip.
Now to my problem: It seems to me that xdvd has hardcoded paths... I noticed nothing happens when I press a button. In the log, I could see:

2007-06-14 10:34:11.718 INFO [10] transcoding batch not found C:\Progra~1\devnz\gbpvr\playmvpdvd.bat

I have the installation at:

C:\Program\devnz\gbpvr\playmvpdvd.bat

I saw a posting somewhere that the plugin should have the hardcoded paths to .bat removed. Perhaps it is the case that the .dll with sqlite patch did not include that?
Can anyone confirm?
Any help appreciated!

The string is hardcoded. I used a hex editor on the dll to rewrite the string... and voilá. It is playing. :-)

"I used a hex editor on the dll to rewrite the string"
Oooh clever. I didn't know you could do that, but it makes sense.

I think you are right about XDVD not being supported anymore. Shame as its my favourite plugin.

Watching DVDs via my MVP is one prime use case for me. I am considering picking up the source and develop it a bit further. I am not sure if it can handle episodic DVDs already? Do you know?
I have seen subtitle support (of VLC or mencoder at some place). But that should also be possible to control via the GUI (None, Swedish, English)

An idea that I have would be for the plugin to extract some information about the DVD structure and adapt the GUI to that. E.g. a DVD that has four episodes (like from a TV series) may display these in a list.

If I understand what you are saying, XDVD does support episodic disks, you can choose which title you want to play using left and right which refers to which episode on the disk to play.

I often use XDVD to play Star Trek Deep Space Nine DVDs with 4 episodes on (these are macrovision protected and don't work on my DVD player, my TV only has an RF input, no scart, so I have to go through the PC and to my MVP)

Hi all.

I'm new to all this video stuff, so i need ABCs to get things to work, and unfortunately all the help out there seems to be piecemeal. I've been trying to get xdvd to work with mediamvp and vlc to play video_ts (vob) files on my tv, and have a million questions. can anyone help?

q1) is this even possible? if so - then the other questions matter.

i have done the following to try to get xdvd working on my tv thru my vista32box and hauppauge mediamvp:
a) installed vlc
b) "installed" the xdvd plugin
c) downloaded the posted xdvd patch and replaced the old dll with the new one
d) modified the settings.xml to point to the proper paths etc
e) created a new folder called xdvd in my plugins folder, and put the .dll which was just on its own in the plugins folder now in the subdirectory.

now when i launch gbpvr on my computer, i get the xdvd tab with all the navigation buttons etc. but when i try to play a dvd, i get a command box that appears for a second then disappears and nothing else. when i try to launch vlc on its own and then do the same thing, the cmd box disappears and vlc closes as well.
When i try to access the xdvd button via the tv version of gbpvr, it just hangs and restarts. So.....

q2) what steps have i missed in the install process? i have only one file (a dll) in my manually created xdvd folder under plugins. is this right? i've heard references that files (plural) have to be copied here. what files?

q3) do i have to run vlc in telnet mode or does xdvd take care of launching it and putting it in telnet mode etc if necessary?

q4) assuming i don't need to do anything, why does nothing play? i have the xdvd screen come up on my computer, and i can scroll through the filesystem and find the folder in which i have my video_ts file and audio_ts file, but when i try to play, or transcode, or save, it just sits there and does nothing, and there doesn't seem to be a dvd.mpg file created anywhere. the dvd in my dvd drive is recognized as well, but doesn't play. seems to be a problem between xdvd and vlc, but i dont' know what i need to do to vlc to get it to understand xdvdish.

q5) why does mediamvp kak when i hit the xdvd button from the tv? I don't even get to this nice screen with buttons and file lists. it just dies on me.

please help. I don't need anything fancy - just a way to play my family video_ts files on my tv, that's all i ask!

humbly,
c

by the way - the dvd bat files seem reasonable. mine has the following line, which matches where the VLC was installed:

start /low C:\Progra~1\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe --sout=#transcode{acodec=mpga,ab=128,channels=2}:duplicate{dst=std{access=file,mux=ps,url="%1"}} dvdsimple://%2@%3 :dvdnav-caching=7000 --sout-ffmpeg-strict 1 -I dummy --dummy-quiet --one-instance VLC:quit
