My mvp has blank video playback screen but the menus work just fine. i gave it windows firewall permissions for PVRX2.exe and since its not specifying UDP or TCP i assume its both.

the odd thing is that it doesnt try to transcode the file at all. the file has a mpg extension but it's really a mp4 avi compressed file (i was lazy and did not want to mess with the DB to rename transcoded/converted files). is there a way to force mpeg to be transcoded? no temp file gets created.

i also never had any of the original software installed on the PC, just gbpvr.

here's the log, it shows that its sending the data to the mvp but the mvp has no idea how to decode mp4v3...

It isn't firewall related. You might have success if you set this config.xml setting

<MvpTranscodeAllVideo>true</MvpTranscodeAllVideo>

but this will also impact normal SD mpeg2 captures.

this tag did help my mvp to transcode and play video correctly...

<MvpTranscodeAllVideo>true</MvpTranscodeAllVideo>

however i dont get the sound  i just realized this today when i finally connected it to the tv. any idea why that is?

the files play fine on the PC both audio and video. Gspot says audio is "0x0050 MPEG-1 Layer 2, 48000Hz 128 kb/s tot , Stereo"

It is the AC3 audio on digital broadcasts. You can try the mvpmc dongle to hear it as ac3 (but they sync will be off or modify the ffmeg line for ts files in config.xml to suit your needs.

actually... i just found the mvp mpeg file in the temp dir and i played it through Gspot. there is no audio! the audio codec info is blank, even though the original file plays fine with audio on the PC. huh?!

whurlston the mvp doesn't use DirectShow without some tricks. Be default it is all done by ffmpeg unless it is changed.

pvruser change the <MVPFFmpegTranscodeTS> string to match the one in <MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLineNTSC>

I actually didn't mean for him to use it to check for decoders. I meant for him to use it to check for the audio stream information.

Here is the log when transcoding for the mvp:

Quote:2008-07-05 10:12:56.296 VERBOSE [7] Starting transcode with: C:\Program Files\Devnz\GBPVR\Third Party\FFmpeg\ffmpeg.exe -y -i "D:\Media\40 Year Old Virgin [XviD MP3 DVDrip].avi" -b 2400k -ar 48000 -ac 2 -ab 128 -r 29.97 -s 352x240 -f svcd "O:\temp\dvr\MVP000F220005332.mpg"

it's not using the code from MVPFFmpegTranscodeTS but rather the one from MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLineNTSC...

the only difference i see is that this one has the audio as : "0x0055 MPEG-1 Layer 3, 44100Hz 112 kb/s tot , Joint Stereo" compared to the 48000 / 128 that the command line wants to transcode.
