I need help connecting the cables from my WinTv tuner card 150 to my TV or SAT box. I dont know what cables to connect where??? I am totally stuck here. I want to use S video for the card but where do I connect it to? TV or SAT box. Do I still have to have the SAT box connected to the TV?? Please help I am stuck in a rut, too much info to retain. I am using GBPVR, Hauppauge 150 w/ 45 button remote, Win XP.

Thanks!

1) You should not have any cables from your pvr-150 to the tv set.
2) You should have some sort of cable from your SAT box to your pvr-150. You could use s-video if you want (which is the preferred way), or you could use coax or composite. But s-video is best.
3) You should have some sort of cable from your graphics card to your tv set if you want to watch recorded shows on your tv. This could, depending on your graphics card and tv type be DVI or HDMI, s-video, scart, component or composite (and possibly any other types I don't come to think of right now).
4) If 3), then you also need a cable from your sound card to either your TV or your stereo system.
5) If you have two outputs from your SAT box, you could keep one of them to your TV set. This would let you use your SAT box directly, as you do today, without having to go through GBPVR. This could be useful if your computer is not always on, and you don't want to "turn on the computer just for watching some TV". On the other hand, eventually you will want to use GBPVR for all your tv watching Big Grin

Hope this gives you a starting point. Good luck!
I'm not always right

Also, you need a connection for sound from the Sat box to the PVR-150. SVideo only carries the video. Most set top boxes have RCA audio connections but your PVR-150 requires a 1/8" stereo mini-plug, meaning you'll need a special cable with RCA on one end and 1/8" on the other (Monster cable RCA to mini-plug cable), or a normal RCA cable with a simple RCA to mini-plug adapter. The adapters are usually much cheaper.

Doesn't this way effectively remove any 5.1 sound capabilities? (unless you go direct from Cable box Digital audio out directly to receiver for live viewing). Or is this just a limitation of the PVR 150 in not having advanced audio inputs?

THIS IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!

I am now on the right track guys!!! Thank you Thank you!

You all have pitched in something different. I will definetly go pick up the audio adapters. My Graphics card does have DVI connection and my TV does have a DVI connnection, also Component connections. I wasn't aware about connecting the graphics card to the TV, so much reading brain freeze on how to get the graphics to show up.

If there is anything else please let me know, I am a novice at this stuff.

The PVR-150 cannot record Dolby Digital 5.1 as it doesn't have a digital input. I think it can record Dolby ProLogic since this gets encoded in the stereo signal - maybe someone else can chime in definitively.

dont be tempted to buy Monster Cable products because they look cool or you think they will magically fix picture/sound quality. all of their "technology" to improve quality is just shielding, which only matters when you are doing a long run of cable. for most people, and especially those who are not audiophiles/videophiles the standard Radio Shack cables, adapters and gender changers will be good enough to not notice a difference. also monoprice.com has good deals on quality cables and the like

other than the tendancy of sony products to spontaneously burst into flames or lose in format wars, no nothing I can think of
