Anyone else see this:

http://www.aja.com/html/products_windows_xena_LHe.html

Is the $1500 price range what we can expect in order to do HD capture over component cables? Has anyone seen any similar devices for less?

Good new for sure. I've been following things on it here http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/thread/234814.aspx and you might want to mention GBPVR as an option
to Sage.

great news. thanks.

for someone who has a STB with one set of component outs and no hdmi, would this card support "pass-through" to the TV, or would one need to use, for example, "Live TV" in gb-pvr?

No, in the same way that today's video capture cards dont provide a pass-through for their composite or svideo inputs. You may be able to use a simple splitter though, so that one feed goes to the capture device, the other goes to the tv.

I am anxious to see the minimum specs for a machine that can record and playback the HD content. Also, will comskip.exe be able to do its magic on these hd files? (My instinct says no.... drat that pesky instinct).

I am building a new PVR box right now with a planned Intel E2200 dual core (to keep costs down) overclocked to 3gig. My suspicion is that the video card is going to be the weakest link. I'd appreciate feedback on cards that can keep up with the HD content from the Hauppauge device.

wow, that's amazing news sub!! I logged onto the forums to see what people thought of the HVR-1600 and was planning to pull the trigger to at least get ATSC... but now I'll hold off for this product so I can get nice HD capture from my STB! Smile

as a sidenote.. sub, would my dual core E2140 system with a nVidia 7600GT be good enough to timeshift HD?

I dont know. I dont have my device yet.

Be warned though, some H.264 encoded files can be very hard on machines for playback. Our local DVB-T system is trialling highdef H.264 channels, and it pegs the CPU at 95-100% usage on my AMD X2 4400 with 7600GS videocard, and stutters when there is lots of movement on screen. Using an H.264 capable video card (ATI 2600 Pro) along with the EVR renderer on Vista (for DXVA 2.0) I was able to get about 8% CPU usage and smooth playback.
