Imagine this Scenario: You have a large GBPVR server with smaller clients around the house (laptop, SFF PC, modded DVD player PC, etc.). However, a client is useless unless it has access to server. This makes it impossible to simply pick up a client and go to a friend's house.

A feature that would allow selected recordings to be copied over to a client for offline viewing would certainly be nice. Is anyone else interested in a such a feature as well.?

That feature exists in the web interface (EWA).

Mapped drives and offline folders would do this. As long as you accessed your recording via mapped drives to main PVR.

The above methods would both work, but it would still be cool to be able to do it all from the GBPVR UI with recordings meta-data. Would this be doable using a plugin?

I was just about to post a request for this feature when I found this thread. Is this feature still out of the realm of possibility or could it be looked at again in a future version.

I set up GBPVR for my father who knows just enough to really mess up his computer. He uses GBPVR on his HTPC to watch tv, then he also uses it as a client on his laptop which he travels with all the time. Right now he copies file from a network drive to his laptop and watches them through media player. I would setup offline folders, but his his laptop only has a 100Gb drive and the server drive is a 2Tb drive. Also database files cannot be made available offline.

I was thinking about maybe a plugin or something that would activate only on a client system, maybe a small checkbox called offline or something, that when checked, would automatically download the video file and add it to a local database, then make it available through the client just like it was connected.

If this is not possible or is to complicated, I can certainly understand, but I thought I would throw it out.

A combination of Video Archive and MpegImport should work.
3x MVPs (not used anymore)
XBMC
Hauppauge 150 via SVideo
Comcast Digital Cable
Motorola HD Cable box channel changed via Firewire
Vista Home Premium with RDP hack
AMD Athalon 64 5000+
340gig sata, plus 80SATA+3x160IDE Drives in XP machine for storage.
