Hello
I have a laptop at home with GB-PVR installed, configured to connect to the main GB-PVR in the office, which connects to the network over 802.11G.

On the laptop, I can start GB-PVR and select Live-TV and it works. Unfortunately, it is very choppy at times because of (I'm assuming) high network latency. Would it be possible to have the 'client' config include a checkbox that would ask the server to stream the LiveTV content through VLC to reduce the overhead and make the video smooth, allbeit at a lower frame/bit rate than normal?

When I stream recorded content over VLC from EWA at the LAN setting it works fine, so I know there's *some* bandwidth to use.

Thank you.

Sorry, but I wont be building any functionality that requires the use of VLC.

Hi Netwerk23,

You could try to set the [SETUP-LiveTV Quality] in the direct.ini file to lower bitrates. I've done it and now I can watch TV on my laptop without choppy video. I'm watching TV in a small window, so the lower quality is hardly visible.

Regards

Thank you, I'll look into it. Do you have a recommendation on what rate works well for you? I see the default is as such:

[SETUP-LiveTV Quality]
VideoResolution=0
OutputType=14
BitRate=4500
AudioSampleRate=1
AudioBitrate=11
AudioOutput=0
BitRatePeak=7200
AudioCompression=11
EncodingMode=1

sub, when I mentioned VLC, I didn't mean that specific program, moreso the functionality of transcoding the output to a lower bitrate, that's all. If there are other programs that do that, wonderful. Thanks anyways.

I've set it at 2250 for the peak and 1750 for the bitrate. But maybe higher values will work for you, you'll have to try what works best. The changes you make will work instantly, so it's pretty easy to experiment with it.

I think EWA won't stream mpeg2 but a transcoded format like mp4, H264, wmv or whatever. It will use a lower bitrate in all cases I think.

Thank you, I'll try this when I get home.

HtV - that would be the idea, except with LiveTV with GB-PVR in the client/server config

Yes I think I get the idea. You do know that you can stream livetv in EWA as well?

Make sure you've got the latest build installed (see the wiki) as it was added only a few releases ago - then you should just find it as a clickable link from the current program on the EPG....
