ffmpeg.exe or ZProcess.exe ???

After having some parameters hammered out with GB-PVR's config.xml, we can now use ZProcess with a filename of ZProcess.exe (instead of ffmpeg.exe) and use ffmpeg as ffmpeg.exe (instead of fmpeg.exe)

It's always been a very confusing point for new users, and now could potentially confuse new users some more...

I'm thinking of editing the instructions to remove references to 'ffmpeg as fmpeg etc...'

But ZProcess as zprocess.exe will only work properly with GB-PVR v 99.5 and onwards.... (that's still pretty new...)

What are your thoughts....?

Also, I have read passing references to 'the docs are a little complicated'.

Any suggestions on further wiki documentation revamp?

I really appreciate the support I have received from those of you that have posted here...

And for the lurkers,... On the last wiki page, ZProcess downloads topped 300. That means there have been quite of few people trying it, and either didn't have a problem to write home about, or decided to not to continue using it...)

I find it quite rewarding to see users find ZProcess useful. Now I think the documentation is getting in the way of more people discovering, or venturing into the ZProcess...

Any suggestions.... (opening myself wide open to constructive criticism - be gentle :o )

Hope to hear from any or all of you...

ZProcess.exe 100%. Sorry I haven't been around (new job) to test as much as you'd like, but my bet is a lot more folks will at least try it if it doesn't overwrite something they perceive as part of GBPVR.

a) only document the new way. ( make refferance to an old way did exist, but is no longer used if you wish.

b) documentation, how about a what does it do , short / sweet.

c) how about a better name .

I think Zprocess will allow me to trascode dvd's to mpegs, as needed for the MVP, and I think a few other things as well. I htink it grew out of an idea to use VLC as a transcoder, which is how in the end I bumped into it, I've been having fun using the DVD2MPEG plug in, and having used VLC as a player, was wondering if it could be used to transcode, and searching for VLC I found Zproccess.

BTW: Zprocess looks great, I'm just trying to get into it today.

Glad you're trying it now. I'm happy to hear people's first reactions.

My last name starts with a 'Z'. My handle is Zehd. The program does more than just Transcode; in general, it processes files. Therefore I thought ZProcess was a valid name. (BTW I pronounce the name ZEE-Process. ZEHD-Process doesn't sound quite right to me...) Rolleyes

A True Canadian! Pedantically spelling words with the British influences, and conveniently stealing from the Americans when ever it suits me... Big Grin

You're right, I need a much more concise introduction. ZProcess originally was a glorified batch file that acted as a go-between for GB-PVR and ffmpeg.exe. It also simplified the PostProcessing.bat.

Then I brought MEncoder into the mix. I'm looking into using VLC as a Transcoder. Currently VLC is only used to preview video file transcodes...

And currently, ZProcess won't really work with DVDs the way that other Transcoding programs do. I'm looking at making that feature better...

Again, I really appreciate that you have shown me an area that I could improve ZProcess...

Feel free to help with the docs and design...

I've written code into ZProcess to assist those wishing to switch from ffmpeg.exe to zprocess.exe
