Hello Folks

I live in the UK and have a Hauppauge Nova-T 500 (digital only) card. About half of the Freeview TV recordings that I make go out of sync when they are played back. I have searched for other posts about this issue but am still not sure what would be the most effective way to troubleshoot this.

At the moment I am running my recordings through Videoredo's Quick Stream Fix which does a good job fixing the sync problems.

I would appreciate any tips on what changes would be worth trying so as to avoid the Quick Stream Fix step if poss!

Thanks

Al

I had the same problem. Change your decoder. Default is something 'system default', see what else is there that you can change for video and audio, I used to use the decoder that my DVD player installed (Intervideo) before I started using NVIDIA PureVideo.

Or try changing your recording format from *.MPG to *.DVR-MS

Thanks Jon. I should add that I always use XBMC to play recordings.

Try changing the mux you're using, or the version of it.

Al,

Did you get your problem sorted? I'm in the UK too and have a similar setup and the same problem.
I'm recording in MPG format using the Cyberlink mux (for ease of playback on my MVPs). After a few moments of playback, the picture goes jerky for a few micro seconds then restores but the sound is now out of sync for the rest of the playback.

It's definitely not the actual playback but the recording itself. It doesn't happen all the time and I've not narrowed down whether it's a specific channel or dependant on which of the two tuners is in use but it's dammed annoying

I`ve got the same Hauppauge Nova T 500 dual tuner, and did experience similar problems. I`ve now got hold of the Cyberlink 5.0.1307 Mux, and have the decoder set to that on the last `Misc` tab of the Config utility.
One thing to make sure is that the 5.0.1307 Mux is the first Mux listed using the GBPVR Mux-Checker Utility, and if necessary rename or delete any other Cyberlink Mux`s if they are listed first on the Muxchecker.

The 5.0.1307 Cyberlink Mux can be downloaded easily, and there`s a previoud thread detailing where it can be found :-

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=23366

I always throw my recorded programs through VideoRedo to QuickstreamFix
the file, before using DVD-Lab to convert the file to VOB`s. Then I use Nero to burn the VOB`s into a DVD. I`ve tried using Nero to convert straight from the fixed file to a DVD but sometimes it still insists on Transcoding the file, even though I`ve shoved it through VideoRedo, and this not only can take
ages, but does add audio sync issues as well. Using DVD-Lab is both quicker to make the VOB`s and also doesn`t add any audio issues.

Hope this helps, do come back and let us know if it makes things any better,

Regards,

Highlander

Highlander,

Thanks for your suggestion. I've checked and the Cyberlink mux is the ONLY mux installed. It's version 5.0.2.22 which I believe is the latest. Videoredo does fix the audio sync problem but it's a bit of a bummer if I've got to fix every other recording I make. Rolleyes

Can you guys make a note of which channels the recordings are from when you get sync. problems? I'm not saying I have any answers but I'd be interested to know.

I specifically have problems with Film4 and Film4+1 due to the higher bitrates of the streams for those channels. I can't say I see problems with other channels but I record to dvr-ms and auto-convert to mpeg2 so it's slightly different. The Cyberlink mux is still involved at the transcode stage and it's the mux that I believe to be the problem.

Cheers,
Brian

Main culprit is BBC1.....I've had to videoredo fix all five episodes of "Five Days" before my other half could watch them (severe earache! ) as all went out of sync within a few seconds of the start.

Videoredo always reports a small number of frame errors which it deletes.

Brian,

My loss of audio sync seems always to happen on BBC1 & BBC3. Ive tried different Cyberlink mux versions and it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Usually occurs only a few minutes into recording. Also happens with Live TV as well (watching on MVP so live is via cyberlink mux)

ITV, CH4 etc don't seem to give me the problem. Signal quality seems good.
