He Sub,

I've been playing around with zprocess, but I cannot get the mencoder bit to work. Still I read everywhere that the mencoder transcodes much faster then the ffmpeg.exe

The only reason I tried zprocess is the faster transcoding. Is there any way I can just use the mencoder.exe with GBPVR without using zprocess? (zprocess is a bit user unfriendly... and the GBPVR config isn't!)

Can you build a swith option or something in de GBPVR config?

Tnx!

With regards,

Steven

Well the wish only kicks in, if the answer to the question is negative :p

mencoder can be used as is..nothing needs to be added..
just edit the config.xml defaultffmpegconversions section...
and use mencoder.exe as the exe= and use whatever command-line you wish..
mencoder.exe must be placed in gbpvr\third party\ for this to work tho..
make your own profiles for whatever your needs are and they will be available in the video library and also the overnight transcoding from config.exe...
Big Grin
and while it is faster, not by a whole lot...very dependant on quality,etc..
and note: you have to supply your own command lines for mencoder, so play with it from command line, then when you get a good one working, integrate it into gbpvr..Smile

I'm fairly sure you can already do this by editing either <MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLinePAL> or <MVPFFmpegTranscodeCmdLineNTSC> to add an exe="mencoder.exe" and place mencoder in the "GBPVR\third party" driectory, and editing for the appropriate command line.

Its only setup for ffmpeg by default since its all included 'in the box'

Hi Steven, I'm not taking offence at all, but I have not seen any questions in the ZProcess sub-forum from you... I would like to here suggestions on how to make ZProcess more user friendly...

He Zehd, glad you don't take offense. I was not trying to offend you.
I am am glad that there are people who take it upon thereself to build tools like you do.

I read the forums, but I could not pinpoint my exact problem with zprocess. I could not get it to work with mencoder and that question was already posted (more than once)

Well here I go...
- choosing the encoder (ffmpeg/mencoder) does not work (obviously)
- The tab index is not set and when tabbing through the controles the cursor jumps randomly through the fields
- The order of the screens is not logical (for me anyway)
- The installation was a bit difficult to follow and the step-by-step explanation in the wiki was very complex (maybe because I am not a native english speaker?)
- Maybe you should add .avs files to the type you can choose (although you can choose it when selecting all files)
- I could not figure out for sure if zprocess was being called or not, maybe popup a screen that says it is running and show logging in there?
- Use tooltips on every setting, there are a lot of settings and buttons and sometimes it is not transparent what they do.
- Testing of the transcoding should be an entirely separate screen. Now you have the choose the file on a different screen, and that screen is also used for a lot of other functionality.
- I would make the setting of the screen dimensions a popup, because it takes up a lot of space and not everybody needs to use it. Just show the set dimensions on the main screen and with a button you can call the entire screen.

That is it for now... I hope it helps.
Above remarks are of course in my opinion... so maybe others don't have the same experience as I do.

I would like to say, keep up the good work! (And it is good to hear that other people still keep visual basic 6 alive!!)

p.s. Can you post a transcoding line for PAL transcoding for mencoder? Cannot get it to work

With regards,

Steven

When I start a movie (.avs) through the MVP the ffmpeg/mencoder isn't called at all?? I even renamed the ffmpeg to something else to see if it would crash, but no? The movies just plays as it always does...

I must be looking at the proces wrong?

Why doesnt it use ffmpeg/mencoder?

I added my config.xml and the trans2mvp log...

Can someone help me please...

I could be wrong but when I checked your log, I kind of remembered that for .avs files the mainconcept-encoder is used. That one is installed by the hauppauge-mvp sw. In the beginning of gbpvr it was used for transcoding avi to mpg. Later on sub changed that to ffmpeg. But I remember fiddling with avs-files sometime ago and this was what was happening. My guess is sub never changed the avs-association from the mainconcept-encoder to ffmpeg. (well something like thatSmile )
