Well, its about 24hrs now since I stumbled across GB-PVR. My MediaMVP was delivered on friday and quite frankly i think its an amazing bit of kit. My Mini-ITX based PVR has now been retired to be re-assigned to othe duties.

So, intial comments.. My overall thoughts are what a fantastic piece of software I do seem to be having a few problems :-

1. Video playback - I dont get the OSD as shown in the help. Why is this?
2. MP3 playback progress - you can't tell what MP3 is playing and how far through it is.

The plugins are great, the picture plugin knocks the socks off the standard MVP picture viewer. I have a few comments about ow the package could be improved. So - What else would I like...

1. DVB support!!.
If this software supported DVB it would quite suimply be the best PVR software available. I have a Hauppauge Nova PCI DVB card which I have owned for over a year now. I've yet to find a decent piece of software to exploit this card. The Hauppauge software is OK (ish) , but its terrible on a TV. Coupled with the superb EPG support etc it would really finish this off.

2. Video library playback
The ability to skip through a playing back file with the number keys - as you can with the haupauge software would be good. 1 skips to 10% of the way though, 2 to 20%, 3 to 30% etc.

3. UK weather page
I have installed and configured the weather plugin. Weather forecasting varies from 'provider' to 'provider'. It would be good if the source of the information used in the weather applet could configured; i.e. bbc.co.uk, metcheck.com, weather.co.uk. everybody has their favourite. Satellite picture
is great though.

4. To fix my problems above....!

If you're not getting the OSD when playing back video, you're probably using a version of the Hauppauge software that's too old. you must have 2.1.22054 or higher installed.

I'd like to show info about what MP3 is playing etc, but I've got to find somewhere to put it. I'm undecided.

DVB support - maybe in the future. I dont have a DVB card at this stage, but I'm hoping to get one.

UK specific weather will require some developer to write a plugin or modify the existing one. I dont think I'll find time in the next wee while, but the source code for this is available if anyone else wants to take it on board.

How do I tell my Hauppauge software version?

Will it spped things up if we buy you a DVB card? or would I be better buying an 'ordinary' TV card for now?

I'm not sure how you tell the software version. There is probably a version number in one of the text files in the hauppauge directory. You can download the latest version from shspvr.com.

If someone wants to supply a DVB I'm sure it'd help the process along, but I wont be dropping everything else to focus on DVB support.

OK, I'm downloading the latest packagefrom shspvr.com.

On the MP3 front, could you not use the same overlay you use for the video for the MP3? (the one I cant see yet!Wink

It could just appear at the bottom of the page when you play a track.

Has anybody else asked about the video forward skipping?

hmmm.. just installed 2.1.22054 but still no on screen display.

How does the hauppauge software effect it? Should the hauppauge service be running or now when GB-PVR is running?

The Hauppauge software contains an image (dongle.bin) of the software that is downloaded to the MVP. GB-PVR is a replacement for Hauppauge PC side software, but still requires the software image to be downloaded to the MVP using the normal mechanism.

Did you remove the power connector from the socket on the back of the MVP? If not, it'll still be running the same version of software on the MVP. If this is the case, just unplug the power for a few seconds, start the Hauppauge software on your PC, restore the power. This will force the new dongle.bin to be downloaded.

Right, I upgrated to the latest beta and I have the OSD on the TV now, but not the PC when I run it on the PC. Is this normal?

Also the OSD is only visible for a few seconds. is there a way to make it pop back up with the Hauppauge MVP remote?

About the services - should I stop the Hauppauge service when I run GB-PVR?

If you press the pause button the OSD will reappear. From memory it'll also show if you skip forward or back.

I do the following when I start GB-PVR with the MVP.

1 - boot the MVP with the normal hauppauge software (you should see Hauppauge menu screen on the TV)
2 - Click the Start -> Programs -> Hauppauge MediaMVP -> Stop icon (TV will say 'contacting servers)
3 - Click the Start -> Programs -> Devnz -> GBPVR MediaMVP Server icon. (GB-PVR will appear on the TV).

I think behind the scenes the Hauppauge Stop icon stops both of the services, but I've never looked.

Thats pretty much what I hve been doing. When I get my seup sorted I will probably put it all in one batch file (along with updating my TV guide!Wink

So there is no way to pop the OSD back up or force it to stay visible?
