I have just started trying to get UbuStream working. You have great documentation and how to threads but I am missing some things, I am sure they are very basic but this streaming stuff somehow frys my brain

First, I will let you know what I am trying to do. I have another application that can stream out on UDP on 235.1.1.1 port 1234. It streams a MPEG2 TS.

I set it to broadcast and in VLC media player I can see the stream if I configure the network stream to UDP/RTP Multicast to 235.1.1.1 and in advanced options check stream/save and have it play locally. I then saved the config as a playlist called vlc.

Doing this I can open the playlist and it opens vlc to show what is on the stream.

I eventually want to get it to stream over to my MVP but for now, I would love just to get it in GBPVR!

This is where I am not sure if I am doing it correctly. I configured a station to point to the URL of the m3u playlist I configured in VLC. ("C:\Documents and Settings\Dad\My Documents\vlc.m3u") Since there is no website, I left that on blank. I chose VLC as my media player.

In media players I have VLC setup by pointing it to "C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" and full screen to "-f"

When I start GBPVR and select the plugin I see "all stations and ungrouped" If I select ANYTHING I get an error : Error : Method not found : Boolean gbpvr.elements.list.setselected (int32).

Then I tried to setup channel mode and did a full cut and paste of the MVP sticky thread. When I try to launch the channel it opens a dialog box and the recording tray icon turns green, but nothing happens. Everything then locks up and I have to quit gbpvr by closing it from the tray.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.Rolleyes

An update. I found I had an old version of the gbpvr elements. I added that and now it does not give me an error, it launches an UBU steam box and VLC and then stops. I guess it is something in VLC config. Any help would be great!

Well a little more progress.

I was able to get it to show up on the pc using the list mode. I had to get rid of the -f for fullscreen mode. It now opens in a vlc window and I have to maximize it but that works ok.

I am still lost in channel mode. If I pick a channel from the guide, it goes into timeshift mode and waits and then say error trying to play file or something like that. I can't see it even trying to start vlc. (in the tray or anywhere) I tried opening the UBUstreamcmd.exe file that it points to from the gbpvr directory and only get a dos box that says "syntax:ubustreamcmd <channel number> <"player parms"> I am not sure if it is suppose to do anything else??? Is there any debug dialogs I can look at?

Ok I am still struggling here. I have read dozens of pages on the WIKI, Forums and on VLC but I am missing something. I get this from the logs

I see where it wants to start vlc, but I see no effort by my PC to start vlc. I also don't get how it configures vlc to find the stream. Do I have to tell it somehow that the steam is from 235.1.1.1:1234? If so, where do I input that? I got the list mode to work by configuring a playlist in vlc and starting the playlist from UBU, but I don't understand how to do it using the external recorder. As I said, I am missing something basic here. I would love to get my FTA channels over to my MVP so I can see them from the living room. I REALLY would appreciate the help! I promise to document it well once I get it goingSmile

Any ideas??

some things to check:

in Ubu COnfig application:

VideoLAN (or VideoLAN client) is listed as a player, and has correct entries for videoLAN executable ("c:\Program FIles\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" is normal)

Streams you want to play as channels have player listed as VideoLAN?

Streams you want to play in channel mode have EPG entries? (and show up in the list of channels)

External recorder gets passed two parameters the first is the channel number, which is "0" in the log you posted. I don't think that is right (although Ubu could have started numbering at 0, I suppose) The second parameter is a LONG string of stuff that should get passed to VLC by UbuStreamCmd.

UbuStreamCmd then looks up the stream info for Channel 0, and passes it to VLC when it starts up VLC.

In UBu COnfig, recreate the fake EPG, and then in GBPVR config-> capture sources-> Ubustream, reload the EPG.

You should wind up with entries on the TVGuide for your channel.

Thanks for the help,

Two questions:
1)should I be able to see VLC start? If so where?
2)I am a little confused on the channels. I am only looking for one channel, the one coming from the udp port 1234 stream into vlc. (I have now changed to to unicast so I only have to tell it port 1234 and not the IP. The channel does show up on the guide as a channel, and it seems to try to start if I select it and tell it to play. Then it just gives me an error message. From the log above, I just don't see anywhere it tells vlc to look at udp port 1234. Where do I configure that? In VLC, external recorder or UBU?

FIXED!!!

I finally got it to work. I guess I just blew the install because I deleted external recorder and UBU files, reloaded them, followed jbyram2's MVP instructions and it works like a dream! As a side note, I finally figured out that all I needed to tell vlc about its input was "udp://@". I put this as the address for the station I configured and it works fine.

Thanks JBYRAM2 for the help and great "how to"
