I am still running an older version (maybe since late 2004), and no complains so far (was down for a few months due to basement finishing ...etc., but now is up and running again).

Any good reason to upgrade?
Did I miss a LOT of version releases since 2004?

I am afraid to upgrade because now I need .NET 2.0, which requires WinXP SP2 (I think), which I am reluctant to download.
I am afraid to break my system.

Are there enough reasons to upgrade?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Yes, I think so. There is a lot of really cool stuff that has been added in the last two years. It was pretty primitive back in 2004.

Yes. Probably a couple of dozen releases

Only you can make up your mind on whether you want to do this. Personally I think its worth it.

Wow, even customer service improved dramatically Smile
sub now replies even faster Smile

Just kidding with you sub, and THANKS A LOT for all your help. This is the best PVR system I used, and I did not even upgrade yet.
You do not know how grateful we are.

Now back to the upgrade.
I still need to read through the upgrade instructions, but since my version is soo old, I thought maybe I need to UNINSTALL GBPVR?

Can I reuse my remote definition files? (that one was very tough to create, and I am still using very old Girder ver 3.0 I think, and old USB-UIRT stuff).

Will everything be back compatible?

Thanks a lot in advance.

To be honest, you're in uncharted territory upgrading from a release that old. It might not even be possible. I dont really know. I'd recommend backing up before trying.

Installing and configuring a fresh install is pretty easy, but you'd then have the inconvenience of your existing recordings only being available from the Video Library, not the Recordings screen. There are some utilities on the wiki that would help reimport them though.

Yes, these should be ok.

Ok, thanks a lot.
Since the remote def files and stuff can be reused, I think it is lower risk.

I will backup my system (using Ghost) as you suggested and try to new stuff.

Will psot here how it goes (hopefully by end of week).

Thats good. If you're able to do this, there is very minimal risk.

Good luck.
